Treatments that Can be Combined with Epidermal Leveling

Epidermal leveling is a non-invasive facial procedure that can be combined with other procedures to produce a more youthful or aesthetically pleasing look. Epidermal leveling removes top surface layers (dermis) of skin and fine facial hair. This stimulates new collagen growth and smooths the skin’s surface. This procedure is used to reduce the appearance of fine lines, acne scarring and skin blemishes. The procedure will not eliminate all of the above. However, it will stimulate the collagen into rebuilding healthy skin that will reduce the appearance of lines, small scars and blemishes.

A trained professional will use a device that holds a small blade. Gently, the blade is passed back and forth on the skin’s surface. Most individuals will not need analgesics, but there may be some minor discomfort after the procedure. Redness and mild swelling is common and may persist for a couple of days, while the skin heals.

During your consultation, your physician will recommend a program of treatment specifically designed for your skin. Epidermal leveling can be combined with several different types of treatments, including:

Mild Chemical Peels

Your doctor may recommend a mild chemical peel. Some mild peels may be applied shortly after your Epidermal Leveling procedure. These may include, but are not limited to glycolic acid, alpha hydroxyl acid and salicylic acid peels. Peels penetrate the surface of the skin and are helpful in treating fine lines, age-spots, unusual pigmentation, sun damage and acne. In combination with the Epidermal Leveling, the mild peel may increase the production of collagen below the surface skin. The result is a brighter and smoother appearance.

Radio Frequency Rejuvenation

Radio frequency is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure. Radio frequency heats the tissues below the skin's surface. This stimulates the production of thicker, stronger strands of collagen that help to tone and tighten the skin. A program of rejuvenation that combines Epidermal Leveling with Radio frequency treatments will leave you with a more youthful appearance.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)

PDT is a term used to describe photosensitive light therapies. It is used to lessen the appearance of rosacea, age-spots, acne and sun damaged skin. The treatments are performed on an outpatient basis. Common light therapies include Blue Light, Blue Light/Red Light Combination and Pulsed Light and Heat Energy (LHE.) Generally painless, a solution is applied to the skin prior to exposure to the light. PDT has proven to be highly effective in the treatment of acne and acne scarring. PDT shrinks the oil producing sebaceous gland and destroys the acne causing bacteria. Epidermal Leveling can minimize the appearance of acne scarring, while PDT may lessen acne outbreaks.

Pulsed Dye Laser

The Pulsed Dye Laser is used to treat rosacea, spider veins, skin blemishes and age-spots. A beam of light is pulsed directly on the treatment site. The Epidermal Leveling can brighten and smooth the surface of the skin, while the Pulsed Dye Laser can be directed at imperfections occurring just below the surface.

Your physician may recommend alternative treatments other than those listed above. Additionally, some individuals may not be good candidates for Epidermal Leveling.
