What to Expect During ReFirme

The ReFirme Skin Tightening treatment is a non-invasive, almost pain-free way to lessen the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles as well as tighten loose and sagging skin. Know what to expect during this procedure so that you'll be able to decide if it's right for you.

How the Procedure Works

Targeting areas such as the sides of your mouth, your cheeks, your neck, your undereyes, your eyebrow and your forehead, the skin tightening treatment can smooth out recesses in your skin and improve skin laxity. This translates to less obvious or no longer apparent wrinkles and lines and more firm skin, which means younger-looking skin.

The core of the ReFirme treatment is the elos tool, which emits a combination of light and bi-polar radio frequency. When used together, this combination can stimulate the production of collagen in your skin's cells. The greater the amount of collagen and the more active collagen production is in your skin, the tighter your skin becomes.

Before the Procedure

After a consultation, you'll make an appointment for your first ReFirme procedure. There will be few restrictions placed on you beforehand, but you'll be asked to come to the procedure without wearing makeup, jewelry, perfumes or scented lotions. You may also be asked to wash the areas to be treated with non-scented soap. If you have a sunburn on the skin to be treated or you're ill, reschedule your appointment until you've recovered.

What Happens during Treatment?

During your treatment session, your cosmetic specialist will first rub a gel across the area(s) of your skin to be treated. This gel helps conduct the tool without catching it on your skin. You will not need anesthetic because the treatment shouldn't be painful. However, you should expect to feel a warm, ticking sensation on your skin throughout the treatment.

After you've been prepped, you'll be handed a special pair of glasses to protect your eyes during treatment. Then, the actual treatment will begin. Your cosmetic specialist will place the tool somewhere on the targeted area(s) of your skin and activate the light and bi-polar radio frequency. You'll feel a brief warming sensation and then your cosmetic specialist will lift the tool off of the skin and move it slightly next to or above or below. She will then repeat the process for the duration of the treatment.

Duration of ReFirme

You should prepare for each treatment to last between 45 minutes and one hour. You'll be lying down during this time and should remain as still as possible. Depending on the size of the area(s) to be treated as well as the extent of your lines, recesses or skin looseness, your cosmetic specialist will recommend between three and four total sessions. Each session will be somewhere between two to four weeks after the last, meaning that your entire skin tightening treatment will last for somewhere between six and sixteen weeks before you'll see ideal results (although you should see gradual improvement after each treatment). You must also return for maintenance visits to keep the tautness of your skin, usually at least once a year.

To start the ReFirme treatment, you must first consult with your cosmetic specialist so you can more accurately know how many treatments you'll need to improve the imperfections on your face. Knowing how many treatments you'll need can help you more accurately calculate the total cost of your treatment.
