Dermabrasion and Oily Skin

Dermabrasion is a skin procedure which allows patients to remove the outer layers of their skin in hopes of removing wrinkles and other skin imperfections. The skin will replace the skin which is removed with healthy and younger looking skin cells. For those with oily skin, dermabrasion may have other added benefits.

What Oily Skin Patients Can Expect

When the outer layers of the skin are removed with dermabrasion, patients with oily skin may begin to notice their skin is less oily. Because the oil glands may be reduced during this procedure, the skin may begin to produce less oil. Many patients note they do not have as shiny of skin after the procedure and that they are not breaking out as often as they once did. Though some patients with oily skin report the oiliness may return over time, the long term effect of repeated dermabrasion treatments is that oily skin is much more manageable.

With dermabrasion, patients of all skin types will find their skin is smoother and softer, but those with oily skin will also find they are not experiencing the shine and the greasiness to which they have become accustomed. Though all patient results are different, oily skin patients will want to speak to their doctor about this possibility.
