How Microdermabrasion Is Performed

Microdermabrasion is a skin resurfacing treatment that rejuvenates skin tissues. It is a non-invasive skin treatment, when compared to dermabrasion and laser resurfacing, for restoring the natural glow of the skin. Furthermore, microdermabrasion is a painless procedure to help diminish facial lines, reduce age spots, and treat coarse skin and acne. It has very few side effects.

How Microdermabrasion Works

At present, this technology has made its way through the doctor’s clinic to a self-use medical kit. Microdermabrasion is a simple treatment, which can be done in three easy steps. These procedures are not only available at the dermatologist clinics, but also at spas. The difference between these procedures involves certain limitations such as the price, effectiveness and usage. Hence, before opting for a home treatment, it is recommended to consult a dermatologist.

Crystal Microdermabrasion

This procedure is one of the oldest methods of dermabrasion, derived from the theory of sand blasting using microcrystals of aluminum dioxide. These microcrystals have a sand-like structure; when sprayed, the powder removes dead cells from the topmost layer of skin. The crystalline structures of aluminum dioxide are very reactive elements to the skin and can produce irritation to the skin around the mouth and nose areas. Thus, after the treatment, it is necessary to vacuum traces of corundum powder. The result of crystal microdermabrasion can be best seen when it is used regularly over a period of time as prescribed by the dermatologist.

Diamond Microdermabrasion

Diamond microdermabrasion is a modern technology which uses an exfoliating tool or motorized brush in which the tip is covered with tiny diamond particles. In this procedure, the brush is rubbed against the skin slowly vacuuming the loose dead skin cells from the face. Further, once the suction process is over, the diamond microderabrasion machine stimulates collagen and elastin for a clear and glowing skin.

Home Microdermabrasion

Home kits for microdermabrasion are also available for the treatment of complexion, pores, skin tone and the surface. These kits are effective but have certain limitations as well. Understanding the skin temperament is important to carry out the process effectively. Though the home treatments include similar crystals as those of the spa treatment – the difference in these home products is in the form of cream. The creams are applied on the face using bare hands or a sponge and after a few minutes, the face is washed or rinsed. Also undertaking the treatment, one must be aware of the complications such as infection, discoloration or scarring.

Thus, microdermabrasion treatment is an easy way to have a healthy and glowing skin in just 10 minutes. Monthly procedures are required depending on the condition of your skin, though the effect of the treatment lasts for months. With the regular usage of this treatment, one can delay the aging signs of wrinkles, dark spots and loosening of skin. It is highly recommended to consult a dermatologist if you have any skin problems before undertaking any treatment.
