What to Expect During a Blue Peel

A blue peel procedure is recommended for face, neck and cleavage to get rid of age spots or acne that will affect your overall appearance; the blue peel will give you younger and healthier looking skin. In case you are considering such a procedure, you should know what to expect during this cosmetic procedure.

Prior to the Procedure

Prior to the procedure, your cosmetic surgeon will mark the problem areas, which have more age spots or acne. This will indicate where the treatment should be more intensive.

The treatment involves a mix of 20% trichloracetic acid (TCA) with a blue ionic base, which will give a bluish hue to the solution.

In case you are sensitive, you will receive a local anesthesia, to prevent the burning sensation that may be unbearable for some.

During the Procedure

The blue peel procedure will consist of the application of 1 to 4 coats of the blue peel solution. The number of coats will be determined by your cosmetic surgeon, according to the problem areas.

Immediately after the application of the solution, you may feel a burning sensation, in case you are not under anesthesia. The burning sensation should last no longer than 5 minutes, as the ionic base will neutralize the TCA acid.

The blue peel solution will be kept for up to 20 minutes to work; the solution will be removed together with the dead skin cells.

Duration of Blue Peel

The blue peel procedure’s duration is between 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the number of coats applied. 2 to 3 days after the procedure, your skin will have a bluish tone.

The healing time is between 7 to 10 days.
