BOTOX Treatment

As people age, fine lines and wrinkles become more prominent and defined. However, there have been many discoveries in ways to diminish lines or abolish them all together for extended periods of time. One of these discoveries is Botox. Botox Cosmetic is one of the top of the line and most popular products used to reduce facial wrinkles. Botox is the latest development in botulinum toxin treatment. Although Botox is a wonderful and effective way to treat wrinkles in frown lines, forehead creases (glabellar lines), skin bands on the neck and crow?s feet, many people are still skeptical to get the procedure done. These people are often worried because they are misinformed or because they misunderstand how the botulinum toxin functions. Botulinum toxin is the same toxin that causes botulism poisoning, which is life threatening. However, Botox has been FDA approved as a safe method to use for cosmetic and therapeutic treatment. Botox is a prescription medicine that will be prescribed by your doctor only if you are a candidate. Botox is a popular choice because it is less intrusive than other types of cosmetic procedures. Another Surprising Use of Botox: The majority of people know that Botox is used to reduce wrinkles, but what many may not know or realize is that there are other uses for the Botox Cosmetic treatment. Several people are victims of what is thought to be a genetic problem that makes the sympathetic nervous system work overtime. This type of extra activity produces an overload of sweat that is not normal. This additional, unnecessary sweat can be embarrassing and make some feel unattractive or self conscious. Most of the people that suffer from excess sweat or hyperhidrosis haven?t figured out that there is actually something that can be done to help reduce their sweating significantly. There are typically two types of hyperhidrosis. In the first type the excessive sweat is sustained in one area and is called focal hyperhidrosis. The other type called generalized hyperhidrosis is where the entire body produces more sweat than normal rather than only one area. Generalized hyperhidrosis is usually seen more commonly in obese patients, patients with some type of cancer or some types of thyroid problems. Generalized hyperhidrosis is usually more apparent in the adult population. Focal hyperhidrosis is the type of hyperhidrosis that is thought to be caused by a genetic trait and is seen more in the younger population. Nearly 2.8 to 3 million Americans suffer from this condition. Focal hyperhidrosis is most often observed in hands, armpits, and feet. Some people with this genetic trait also experience craniofacial hyperhidrosis which is sweating of the scalp and face. Facial blushing or reddening of the cheeks may occur because of this excess sweating in the face. Hyperhidrosis is caused in these patients because of the glands responsible for sweating being more concentrated in the hands and feet or face. Patients that experience hyperhidrosis sweat constantly whether they are hot or cold. Hyperhidrosis can be a very embarrassing and uncomfortable condition. Botox has been revolutionary in the reduction and prevention of hyperhidrosis. It has been proven to decrease or almost eliminate excess sweating for up to 9 months or more.
