How Dysport is Administered

Now that Dysport has been released to the United States, many patients are choosing to try this wrinkle relaxer in lieu of BOTOX ® . Dysport is administered in much the same way that BOTOX ® is, with some slight variations in Dysport techniques. Dysport will be administered by a health care professional via a small needle.

The Injections

Prior to the injections, the Dysport practitioner will often ask the patient to frown or make exaggerated facial expressions so that the areas where wrinkling is most pronounced can be marked. The practitioner will then use a very fine gauge needle to administer the Dysport with a series of tiny injections. The amount of Dysport used will vary depending on how pronounced the wrinkles are. The more obvious the wrinkle, the more Dysport will be needed to relax the muscle and thus ease the wrinkle away.

Variations in Dysport Techniques

In most cases the Dysport will be injected in a pattern of tiny punctures that closely follows the line of a patient's existing wrinkles, usually directly into the facial lines. Some Dysport practitioners might choose to use a slightly different technique, where they will inject not only the actual wrinkle, but also several of the surrounding areas. This technique would generally be done to insure that the target muscles stay immobilized, so that wrinkles cannot begin to form again.

Dysport injections will typically last from 3 to 6 months, but this can vary widely. The product will last longer when it is used in patients who need it as preventative care, rather than as a wrinkle eraser.
