How is Restylane Performed?

Restylane is an injectable filler which is very well tolerated, involving a treatment process that generally takes no more than a half an hour to perform. Restylane injection procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, either in your specialist’s facility or spa, or in a medical center that specializes in outpatient and same day procedures.

Prior to your treatment with the Restylane dermal filler product, the areas to be treated will be clearly identified and the injections sites will be cleaned. Depending upon your specialist and your own comfort level, a topical anesthetic cream may be applied to the treatment area prior to your procedure to minimize any discomfort caused by the injection process. In cases where Restylane is being used in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures, such as browlifts or forehead lifts, you may be sedated or receive a neural block.

The injections are made using a very fine needle, which also helps keep discomfort to a minimum. Restylane is injected into the skin in the area beneath the wrinkle, scar or other depression, and slowly administered to the area to gently lift up the skin until the desired correction is reached. Multiple injection sites are usually used to ensure the product is distributed evenly throughout the treatment area. The clear Restylane gel may also be injected directly into and around the lip area to achieve a firmer, fuller, more sensuous mouth.

Once your procedure is complete, you will be advised not to rub or massage the area, and your specialist will provide you with postoperative care instructions to ensure that your results are effective and enduring. In most cases, you will be advised to limit direct sun exposure and extreme cold and heat for several weeks after your procedure. You will also most likely be advised to wear sunscreen to protect the area.
