How to Prepare for Elevess

As with most dermal filler treatments, Elevess treatment requires little preparation. Elevess injections are performed in a doctor's office, and most patients continue about everyday activities immediately afterward. With lidocaine added to the injectable gel, Elevess is less uncomfortable for the patient, and actual administration of the injections only takes a short time.

Consulting with a Doctor

The most important preparation for Elevess treatments is to consult with the doctor who will be administering the injections. A consultation with the cosmetic surgeon helps patients understand exactly how the procedure will work and what results can be expected. The doctor will also discuss any possible precautions that should be taken before the procedure.

Aspirin or other medications or supplements that affect blood coagulation should be discontinued before Elevess treatments. If aspirin is prescribed for a heart condition, consult with the doctor before halting the medication.

Some doctors will require an allergy test before treatment to ensure the patient is not allergic to any of the ingredients in Elevess gel. Those who have previously shown allergic reactions to lidocaine, hyaluronic acid or nitrates should not attempt Elevess treatment.

In the Office

Before beginning the Elevess procedure, the doctor will likely cleanse the face. Many doctors also mark the desired injection sites as a guide to ensure proper placement of the Elevess gel. Placement will have been discussed in an earlier consultation to determine the patient's desired results.

Unlike other dermal fillers, Elevess does not require a nerve block or other anesthetic because the gel itself contains a small amount of lidocaine. This anesthetic reduces the discomfort of the actual injection process. It also reduces the amount of time necessary to complete the treatment. After treatment is complete, the patient may continue with an everyday schedule, without need for recovery or downtime.
