Most Common Uses of Purtox

Purtox is most commonly used to lessen the appearance of lines between the eyebrows (frown lines) and crow's feet around the eyes. Purtox is a refined form of botulinum toxin type A. This is the same ingredient found in Botox and Dysport. However, Purtox is a much more refined version of the botulinum toxin type A.

At this time, Purtox is not FDA approved for the treatment of nasolabial lines (lines around the mouth) or for treatments in the lip region.

Treatment Areas

Purtox is used to treat moderate lines and wrinkles that result from continuous, repeated facial movements. Smiling, frowning, squinting and scowling are examples of repetitive facial expressions. As we age, these movements cause the muscles to contract, forming the wrinkles and lines.

Purtox injections are performed in a doctor's office. Purtox is injected below the wrinkle or line into the muscle. Purtox works by blocking the signal to the nerve that causes the muscle to contract. Purtox temporarily weakens or paralyzes the muscle in the treatment region.

Procedure Time

The entire procedure lasts between 10 and 30 minutes. You should expect to receive several injections into the affected area. Generally, this procedure requires three to five injections. Purtox is not permanent and you may need additional injections at three to four month intervals.
