Conditions that Intense Pulsed Light Therapy Treats

Intense Pulsed Light therapy, which is also occasionally referred to as either Intense Pulse Light therapy or IPL therapy, is a method of treating certain skin conditions and problems that occur in many different people. Due to the method of the treatment and the versatility of the procedure, there are quite a few different types of conditions and affected areas which Intense Pulsed Light therapy can be designed to treat.

Conditions Treated with Intense Pulsed Light Therapy

The primary set of conditions that pulsed light can treat are those having to do with hair follicles. If you experience excessive hair growth on one or more parts of your body, including your arms, back, face, stomach, feet or legs, targeted and concentrated light can be pulsed over the area in certain ways to cause those hair follicles to close up, and to discontinue their production of hair.

Another condition that Intense Pulsed Light therapy has been used to treat is hyperhidrosis. Due to the similar functioning of the hair follicles and the sweat glands in certain cases, and the overlap of many issues that deal with both of these problems, IPL treatment can also be used to deal with these problems as well.

Other Considerations

If you have certain skin conditions, connective tissue disorders or other preexisting conditions, you may not be right for Intense Pulsed Light therapy. That's why you should always plan to speak with your doctor before you begin or commit to a treatment plan of this type to deal with any of the issues listed above.
