How to Prepare for a Fraxel Restore Laser Treatment

Fraxel Restore is an outpatient, non invasive cosmetic treatment that uses lasers which penetrate the skin and promote the production of collagen, that will also tighten the skin and improve its texture. Being fully prepared for the Fraxel Restore laser treatment will ensure that you’ll get great results and minimize the potential of risks and complications.

Drugs and Fraxel Restore

It is advisable to stop taking any retinoid medication or drugs that contain glycolic acid for 2 weeks before the procedure. If you use creams that contain retinoids, you should also stop using these. You should talk to your doctor and see if discontinuing these medications is possible.

You will also have to take antibiotics as a preventive measure against possible infections. Start taking these 24 hours before the treatment and continue taking them until indicated.

You will feel pain after the procedure, so get a prescription of pain medication.

Facial Products

Before the procedure, your skin must be clean; use a mild cleanser and insist on the areas that will be treated. Avoid tanning or using self tanning products 1 month before the treatment.

After the surgery, you will need a special formula moisturizer, which should be thicker and more protective. Ask your surgeon to recommend you a cream.

Purchase a strong sunscreen (protection factor 20 or above).

Other Arrangements

Depending on your skin and the complexity of the treatment, you may require 3 to 5 days healing time. You might consider taking a few days off work, or schedule the procedure on a Friday, so that you have the weekend to recover.
