Intense Pulsed Light Therapy for Women

The Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL), formerly known as the Intense Pulse Light treatment, is a cosmetic procedure that eliminates hair through applying high intensity light on the skin. Women are the most frequent patients getting the IPL treatment.

Why Women Receive Intense Pulsed Light Therapy

Women use various methods of hair removal and are more and more leaning towards more practical treatments that have longer lasting or permanent effects.

The Intense Pulsed Light therapy is effectuated with the help of a xenon flash lamp, which will provide effective results and no hair for a longer period of time. The results of the hair removal through IPL are semi permanent and are comparable to the results of hair removal using laser beams.

The IPL procedure will be applied for a few minutes, during which the light will penetrate the skin, reaching the hair shaft and destroying it. The heat resulted from the application of light on the skin will also destroy the papilla, which produces the hair, as well as the hair follicle.

The IPL in women may also be used for other skin problems, but less commonly:

  • Rosacea
  • Scars
  • Skin texture
  • Sun damage
  • Depigmentation and hyperpigmentation
