Laser Light Therapy for Adolescents

Laser Light Therapy is a cosmetic treatment that can be employed for fine line and wrinkle removal, but may also be applied in patients with acne. The Laser Light Therapy can be applied at a beauty clinic, but more recently, there are also kits for home use. The treatment may be applied in patients of all ages, including adolescents over the age of 16.

Laser Light Therapy and Adolescents

Even if the Laser Light Therapy is best known as an anti wrinkle treatment, in adolescents, the treatment may be used for acne treatment. However, most plastic surgeons or dermatologists won’t apply the treatment on patients that are under 16 years of age.

The Laser Light Therapy involves using light emitting diodes (LED) and infrared light. The light will target a small area of the skin at a time and will focus on areas that have a higher concentration of acne.

The treatment cannot be applied if the patient is under treatment with retinoids. The vitamin A derivate treatment should be stopped at least 6 months before a Laser Light Therapy session.

If used at home, the patient should be very careful and follow the instructions. Home use is not recommended for adolescents.
