Fraxel Restore is a fractional resurfacing procedure, which is used to treat a number of skin conditions, such as scarring, uneven texture and discoloration. It employs a laser to treat tiny areas of the skin, causing the body's natural healing process to take over. This results in the removal of cosmetic skin conditions such as acne scars, age spots, melasma, wrinkles, uneven skin texture, sun damage and skin discoloration. It is suitable for both men and women, and requires minimal recovery time. There are several medical conditions that may produce undesirable or contradictory results when exposed to the Fraxel Restore laser.
Poor Wound Healing
If your body has a poor rate of healing wounds, then this procedure may prove ineffective or even risky. Since the Fraxel Restore procedure relies heavily on the body's natural healing abilities, undergoing the treatment with this medical condition may cause severe complications.
Keloid Formation
Keloid formation is generally associated with scarring, and if you have this medical condition, Fraxel Restore may negatively affect your skin. Since there are very few treatments for Keloid scarring, it is best to avoid this procedure if you are prone to it.
Medical Conditions Requiring Consumption of Accutane
If you have been prescribed Accutane in the last 12 months of the Fraxel Restore procedure, then undergoing the treatment may give rise to complications. Accutane is generally used to treat severe nodular acne, or as a continuation of acne treatment.
Herpes
Fraxel Restore has been known to trigger the virus which causes herpes. If you have had herpes in the near past, or currently have the condition, the procedure is not suitable for you.
Vasculitis
Any disorder that results in the inflammatory destruction of blood vessels, affecting both veins and arteries, falls under vasculitis. Some of these disorders include Kawasaki disease, Polyarteritis nodosa, Giant Cell arterisis and Behcet's disease. If you have been diagnosed with any of these or similar conditions, Fraxel Restore may not be suitable for you. It can hamper the ability of blood vessels to heal.
Infection
You should not have any infections during or immediately before the procedure. Whether a bacterial or viral infection, you will need to undergo a complete prescription of antibiotics before and after the procedure in order to avoid complications.
