Fraxel Restore is the middle level of the 3 levels of Fraxel treatments available.
Reliant Technologies Inc. developed Fraxel, Fraxel Restore, and Fraxel Repair to treat the signs of aging skin. These 3 laser systems utilize different wavelengths to treat specific skin conditions. Fraxel Restore is the first and most popular Fraxel treatment available. It is used to treat mild to severe skin damage. The most common uses for Fraxel Restore are for the treatment of:
Wrinkles around the Eye Area
The skin around the eye area is thinner and more delicate than the skin on the rest of the face. Consequently, this area tends to be the first to show signs of aging. These wrinkles are called "periorbital wrinkles," more commonly known as crow's feet. Fraxel Restore can be used to gently and effectively treat these wrinkles.
Acne and Surgical Scars
Acne scars can occur when skin heals after a breakout. They can be seen as either indentations or raised red marks, and can give an uneven appearance to the skin. Surgical scars occur when skin heals after an incision. They can sometimes remain raised and red, long after surgery. Fraxel Restore removes damaged skin on the surface and stimulates collagen in the deeper layers of the skin. This helps to smooth the skin as it improves skin tone, texture and elasticity.
Age Spots
These spots are often caused by over exposure to the sun. Although they are usually harmless, age or sun spots contribute to an aged appearance of the skin. Fraxel Restore can treat age spots and other hyperpigmentation problems on the face or body.
Melasma
This is a condition of hyperpigmented areas which often occurs on the cheeks, nose, forehead and upper lip areas. Melasma is more common in women, often occurring in pregnancy. The use of oral contraceptives can also bring on this condition. These marks will usually fade on their own over time, but not always. Fraxel Restore can be used to significantly reduce the appearance of melasma.
Actinic Keratoses
This is a precancerous skin condition which affects more than 10 million Americans. It shows as scaly, red patches on areas of the face and body that have been routinely exposed to the sun. Fraxel Restore can remove these lesions and at the same time stimulate collagen production. This will tone and tighten the skin and help it to heal, possibly preventing future damage.
Skin Resurfacing
The exposure of your skin to environmental factors such as sun, pollution and smoking can lead to an uneven tone and texture of the skin. Skin may also become looser and more wrinkled over the years. Fraxel Restore can be used to smooth and even out the skin, resulting in a more youthful appearance.
The Fraxel Restore procedure takes approximately 20 to 25 minutes for a full face treatment. You will often see immediate results after the first treatment. To receive full benefit from the procedure, a series of 3 to 5 treatments is usually needed.
