Fraxel Repair is a cosmetic dermatology procedure that can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and improve the skin's texture. This treatment typically requires minimal down time, as there will be minimal bruising and swelling.
The Skin after Fraxel Repair
The treated areas will be swollen, and the swelling will be the most severe on the second day. The swelling should go away in 5 to 7 days, depending on the areas treated and the capacity of your skin to heal. The redness may be present for up to 1 week, and the skin will start to turn pink, a color which can persist for up to 4 weeks before the skin will finally return to its original color.
The treated area may also be oozing for 1 day after the treatment. The skin will start peeling after 4 days; however, some patients may not experience skin flaking. If the pain persists, you can get a numbing topical cream or some mild pain relievers. Some surgeons recommend vinegar soaks after the treatment, to facilitate the healing process and to reduce swelling and pain.
Caring for the Skin after the Procedure
You should pay special attention to protect your skin after the procedure. Sunscreen is a must, as the sun may be damaging. The skin is particularly sensitive for a few days after the procedure. To help the skin when it's peeling, use a special formula cream; ask your surgeon to recommend you one. Makeup can be worn after the treatment and may conceal the redness.
