Treatments that Can be Combined with Laser Resurfacing

Laser Resurfacing is among the most undemanding of cosmetic treatments aimed at treating various signs of aging, including fine lines and wrinkles. Some dermatologists recommend combining laser resurfacing with other cosmetic treatments to either supplement or complement the results of laser resurfacing.

Facelift Surgery

Laser resurfacing is often combined with treatments that yield a more immediate effect for treating pronounced signs of aging. This is mainly because the stimulation of collagen formation induced by laser resurfacing takes some time to deliver noticeable results.

Further, the natural increase in the synthesis of collagen can tighten the skin to a certain extent. However, it is a bit restricted in terms of eradicating the existing, deep wrinkles or intense furrows along the sides of eyes and forehead. Similarly, jowls in the skin can be camouflaged to a large extent by laser resurfacing but not eradicated comprehensively.

An ideal treatment combination involves a facelift surgery that is minimally-invasive. It is usually preformed on an outpatient basis. This cosmetic treatment complements laser resurfacing. It involves the use of fine needles to access and tighten the sagging tissues below the upper layer of skin. This procedure is advertized under different synonyms due to its wide acceptability for treating various kinds of aging symptoms. Facelift surgery is also called facialplasty and rhytidoplasty.

Facelift surgery is aimed at skin-tightening and some degree of facial contouring. While the facelift yields immediate effects in terms of making the facial skin remarkably tauter, laser resurfacing lends the skin a refreshed look along with retarding the formation of new wrinkles.

Juvederm®

Laser resurfacing is adept at rendering the skin a rejuvenated, freshly-peeled like appearance. It can also treat mild acne scars and minimal wrinkling. However, it is a bit restricted in treating severe lack of facial volume or treating typically challenging facial lines like nasolabial folds. In such cases, it is often combined with dermal filler treatments like Juvederm®.

This is an injectable gel dermal treatment and is as undemanding as laser resurfacing, i.e. it is a non-surgical treatment that presents negligible risks. Juvederm® uses a naturally-occurring compound called hyaluronic acid that is also found in the human body. This ensures that there are no contradictions when the dermal filler makes contact with the tissues.

Stimulation of collagen by laser resurfacing ensures that there is minimal skin-sagging around the dermal filler-treated sites, helping to augment the overall effect and sustainability of Juvederm® treatment. Further, Juvederm® is a bit restricted in terms of rendering the face an instantaneously rejuvenated appearance since it is essentially a sub-dermal treatment.

The complex network of hyaluronic acid ensures that it cannot be easily decomposed or absorbed by the surrounding tissues. Thus, it is retained within the application site for a long time. Juvederm® is very useful for filling-up tissues around highly-visible facial lines like laugh lines, oral commissures along the lower jaw and smile lines.

Some forms of laser resurfacing like fractional resurfacing are better suited for being used as a complementary treatment than conventional, CO2 laser resurfacing. Many such issues and the possibility of contradictory reactions indicate that combining treatments with laser resurfacing needs the approval of a certified dermatologist.
