FDA Approval Status for Slim Lipo

Slim Lipo is a laser-assisted body contouring treatment similar to liposuction. The “Slim” in “Slim” Lipo stands for “selective laser induced melting.” The Slim machine uses laser wavelengths, which is claimed to melt away fat deposits much more efficiently than other laser treatments. Additionally, the incisions made to insert the laser are very small, which eliminates much of the discomfort and recovery time when compared to other treatments. While not the only laser treatment for body fat, it is one of the newest.

FDA Approval

The FDA has approved Slim Lipo. It is the most recent form of FDA approved laser liposuction. However, as the procedure is cosmetic and voluntary, its cost may not be paid by insurance.

Slim Lipo v. Smart Lipo

There are other forms of laser liposuction that have also been approved by the FDA. Smart Lipo was approved in 2006. While the procedures are similar, the physician’s credentials and technique are the essential factor in determining which procedure is best for you. Physicians and patients alike tend to support Slim Lipo over Smart Lipo.

As with any medical procedure, it is imperative to do your own research and ask your doctor any and all questions you may have.
