How to Prepare for Vaser Liposelection

Vaser liposelection is a slimming solution that uses ultrasounds and is assisted by a liquid infusion to make the fat cells easier to remove. If you are about to have this procedure, you should prepare ahead to avoid possible complications that could arise during the surgery.

Preparing for Vaser Liposelection

During your first appointment with the plastic surgeon, you will discuss how to prepare for the surgery. Typically, the procedure is scheduled at least 2 weeks ahead, to allow you to prepare and discontinue different types of medication that could interact with the treatment or cause complications. If you use birth control pills, discontinue taking them 2 weeks before the Vaser Liposelection procedure, as the birth control pills can help the formation of blood cloths during the procedure.

Don’t use aspirin or any other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) at least 1 week before your scheduled procedure. Tell your plastic surgeon about any other medication that you may take. Smoking may also delay the healing of tissues, so it would be advisable to stop smoking 1 to 2 weeks before and after the procedure.

Allergies

Let your doctor know if you are allergic to any medication, especially lidocaine or epinephrine. These are the active ingredients in the infusion fluid that is used to help dislocating the fat cells. These are administered subcutaneously, and if you are allergic to any of these ingredients, you may have unwanted complications such as anaphylaxis or even coma.

The treatment is an outpatient procedure, but you should make arrangements for someone to pick you up after the surgery.
