Medical Conditions and Vaser Liposelection

The Vaser Liposelection procedure uses the latest ultrasound technology and fluid infusion, and is used to reduce the adipose layers from the arms, stomach, hips or back. Even though this procedure is minimally aggressive and is considered safe, there are a few medical conditions that could present problems when Vaser Liposelection is applied.

Liver Problems

Vaser Liposelection will be performed in several stages; the first stage involves infusion with a liquid that will numb and dislodge the fat cells. This infusion liquid contains lidocaine and epinephrine. Even though lidocaine, a numbing agent, is used in low concentrations, lidocaine toxicity can occur if patients have liver problems. The liver may not be able to properly assimilate lidocaine.

Let your plastic surgeon know if your liver does not function properly.

Hemophilia

Hemophilia is an inherited genetic disease that affects the capacity of coagulation or blood clotting. This condition can cause problems during the Vaser Liposelection procedure, as it involves making a few small incisions and bleeding will be present. The bleeding may be difficult to stop and the surgeon must be aware of this condition to be able to stop the bleeding in a timely manner.

If you suffer from this condition, you may consider other slimming techniques that are applied externally (such as Zerona Laser treatment).

Pregnancy

The procedure is performed with the aid of ultrasounds and these may not be recommended during pregnancy. The ultrasounds may affect the baby, so a Vaser Liposelection is not recommended during pregnancy.

Let your plastic surgeon know about any medical condition that you may have or if you take any medication, so that you can prevent any complications or medication interactions that may occur.
