3 Med Spa Myths Debunked
A recent article on Med Spa News has pointed out that there are three major myths floating around out there about the med spa business and that these myths are each incorrect.

The three myths that have been debunked are:

1. The majority of money that is made at a Med Spa is made from people who are seeking Botox treatments.

2. Med Spa owners must have a highly expensive laser system in order to be able to appropriately perform the procedures that are requested by their customers.

3. Doctors who want to open a Med Spa only need to take a weekend training course.

Each of these three myths is incorrect. Combined together, they help us to gain a better understanding of a good Med Spa business. That will be a business that offers a variety of different treatments and one which is more focused on having highly-trained doctors than making sure to get the most expensive equipment on the market.

Learn more about this report here.

Question of the Day: What other myths are there about Med Spas?

Botox May Help You Get That Promotion
Minimally invasive cosmetic procedures have become increasingly popular over the last five or ten years. They are so popular, in fact, that many working professionals rush out of the office on their lunch breaks to get a quick treatment before they have to be back at work. And those professionals just might be the ones that are getting the promotions that you desire.

Reports indicate that professionals aged 30-60 who choose to use minimally-invasive plastic surgery procedures like Botox to keep themselves looking young and refreshed are professionals who tend to make a good impression in the workplace. These people get treated with respect and confidence and tend to be more likely than their peers to move up rapidly into higher positions within their companies.

Younger people are trying to move up the corporate ladder and their older peers have to stay on top of their game both physically and emotionally in order to be able to compete with them. Maintaining the illusion of youth through a little bit of cosmetic surgery is one way that professionals are resulving that issue.

Isolagen Tests Bode Well For Getting Rid of Wrinkles
The biggest sign of aging that someone is going to notice when they look in the mirror is the sign that wrinkles are starting to form. It's no surprise that people want to get rid of their wrinkles so that they can look younger. There are many different cosmetic and surgical methods of reducing and eliminating wrinkles but that doesn't stop product makers from trying to find a product or procedure that will be better than what's already out there in terms of anti-wrinkle benefits.

One such product seems to be doing well as evidenced by recent trials of the product. It's called Isolagen and it serves the purpose of reducing or removing wrinkles while naturally improving the quality of the skin. Recent phase two testing of the product was successful with three-fourth of patients haven't great results from the procedure. This indicates that this is a product which could ultimately end up on the market and pose a threat to the other anti-wrinkle products on the shelves.

Learn more about the testing of this anti-wrinkle product here.

Casting Call for Cosmetic Surgery Procedures
There is apparently some sort of new reality television show related to cosmetic surgery in the works because there is a casting call available online right now which is asking people to let the television show know what type of cosmetic procedures they would like to have done. It asks that people interested in the show be willing to do more than simply get Botox. However, this casting call doesn't specifically say that people must be interested solely in invasive surgery.

There are many types of non-invasive plastic surgery that are available but which go beyond the basics of Botox to help alter and improve the appearance. Photodynamic therapy, and Threadlift are just three examples of procedures that are more intense than Botox in terms of not being used as frequently but which are still non-invasive cosmetic procedures.

Question of the Day: What types of procedures would you select to get done if you were applying to participate in a casting call for a reality TV plastic surgery show?

Teens Would Pay To Never Have Had Acne
Most teens have to deal with the awkward situation of experiencing a lot of acne development during at least short phases in their young lives. Some teens have it worse than others. And for many, the emotional scars of having acne last for a long time after the physical appearance of the problem has gone away.

Perhaps that is why teens would be willing to pay a good chunk of change to have never had acne in the first place. A new study reveals that teens would pay an average of $275 to not have to have gone through the problems associated with acne. That doesn't sound like a lot of money to some adults but that's a big chunk of a teen's allowance and points to the fact that teens remain uncomfortable with acne despite the fact that it's a problem plaguing most of their peers.

The good news, of course, is that teens and adults can both pay to reduce the appearance of acne and the physical changes that it causes to the face. Acne scars are common and are something that adults can choose to get removed using a variety of different skin procedures including microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing and chemical peels.

Question of the Day: How much would you be willing to pay to have never had acne as a teen?

Discuss Skin Care Treatments Openly
Let's say that you are someone who goes to the dermatologist regularly for procedures like Botox injections, laser hair removal and chemical peels. Do you make this fact openly known to the people who are in your life? Or do you try to hide it so that no one you know realizes that you aren't actually just naturally as good-looking as you appear to be?

If you are someone who hides the fact that you see a dermatologist, you might want to think about quitting that habit. This isn't to say that you have to wear a sign around your neck that advertises the dates of your scheduled Botox treatments. But it's not something that you should be ashamed of either because that counteracts the benefit of the treatments.

You see, most people get skin care treatments done because they want to improve their appearance and therefore boost their self-esteem. However, people who hide things from their loved ones tend to have lower self esteem than people who don't. This means that hiding your treatments can reduce the benefits of getting them in terms of the rewards of self-esteem.

Question of the Day: Why do people hide the fact that they get skin care treatments?

You Should Read Books About Cosmetic Skin Care
People who are interested in seeing a doctor for cosmetic skin care procedures such as dermal filler injections or photofacials should strongly consider reading books about cosmetic skin care prior to seeking out a doctor's advice about getting this work done.

Here are just a few of the reasons that you might want to consider reading skin care books before getting treatments:

- You will gain a better understanding of the options that are out there for skin care treatment.

- You will be given an overview of the pros and cons of getting different skin care treatments which can assist you in making better choices for your own procedures.

- You will figure out what questions you have for the skin care doctors that you will be considering getting the procedures from.

- You will learn tips and tricks for getting better results and maximizing the appearance of the treatment.

The more information that you have about the skin care procedures that interest you, the more likely it is that you are going to be able to get good treatments.

Question of the Day: What are some good books about skin care procedures that you might want to read?

Male vs. Female Dermatologists
If you were going to go see a new dermatologist, would you be more interested in getting a male doctor or a female doctor? Does it make any differences to you? Whether or not you care about the gender of your dermatologist depends upon your own gender and it also depends on the procedure that you are getting done.

When getting an intimate procedure done, most people prefer to have a female doctor. For example, if you were going to get laser hair removal in some of your more private areas then you would be likely to want a female cosmetic doctor to do that work regardless of whether you yourself are male or female.

However, for basic cosmetic procedures, you may be likely to care about the gender of your doctor only if you are female. Male patients tend to think that both male and female dermatologists are skilled enough to do the job. Female patients may feel the same way but they have their own preferences for male or female doctors which tend to guide their choices for cosmetic surgeons.

Question of the Day: Would you prefer a male or female dermatologist and why?

CO2 Resurfacing Improved with New FDA-Approved Device
Laser resurfacing is a breakthrough treatment in skin rejuvenation which relies on the use lf lasers to improve the appearance of the skin by reducing such skin problems as wrinkles and sun spots. People who use laser resurfacing typically feel that they look younger almost immediately after the treatment is complete.

There are two types of lasers that may be used for laser resurfacing. The most common type of laser used in laser resurfacing is the CO2 laser. For the most part, procedures using this laser are quick and easy. However, all technologies have room for improvement. Treatments done with the CO2 laser may now be improved as the result of FDA approval of a new laser system that compliments the use of these lasers.

The new system attaches to the current systems that are in place by doctors which means that the addition of this system is affordable and easy for doctors to implement. The result is that the laser resurfacing process is made even easier and the downtime for the patients after treatment is even shorter than it is with current treatments.

Question of the Day: Will doctors be interested in implementing the new device available to improve laser resurfacing with CO2 lasers?

Rely on Reliant in your Home
Reliant technologies is a company whose name you might recognize if you are at all interested in skin rejuvenation services. The company is most well-known for its Fraxel technology. This is laser technology that penetrates deep into the skin and stimulates regrowth of collagen to allow for a natural anti-aging look that people seeking skin care improvements are appreciative of.

Soon you may find that you don't have to go to a doctor to get the benefit of products that are created by Reliant. That's because the business has recently signed an agreement with Phillips which will ultimately allow the two businesses to partner up to offer excellent skin care solutions for the home.

This new agreement is in the early stages but the goal of the agreement is for Reliant to create fraxel-type products that are safe for use outside of a doctor's supervision. The best treatments from the company will likely still be those that are done under a doctor's care but it is exciting to know that Reliant plans to enter the home-based aesthetic products market as well.

Learn more about this partnership here.

Question of the Day: What types of skin rejuvenation products will Reliant create for the home-based products market?

Celebrity Cosmetic Surgery: Lindsay Davenport
Lindsay Davenport is an Olympic athlete who is known for her appearance in four different Olympics and for her gold medal win in the sport of tennis. She is also a woman in her thirties who has used dermal fillers to look and feel her best when she's in the spotlight and she's not afraid to share that information with the world which is evidenced by the fact that she serves as a spokesperson for the Juverderm injectable gel product.

Davenport says that Juvederm has helped to improve the way that her skin looks, giving it back the natural bounce that she had when she was younger and making her appear closer to the age that she feels rather than the age that she is. Her purpose in becoming a spokesperson for the product has been to share this information with others so that people who look up to her can be educated about the safe and effective use of this product.

Question of the Day: What other olympic athletes are acting as spokespersons for cosmetic surgery products this year?

Man Arrested For Giving Illegal Botox Injections
Last year it was reported that a Florida man was giving illegal injections of Botox to people when he was not licensed to do so. Despite the fact that the police were tipped off to this problem, no arrest was made. However, a year later, that man has been arrested and charged with a third-degree felony for misrepresenting himself as a doctor and giving Botox injections to people who trusted that he knew what he was doing.

The problem was that the man was not a doctor and he did not have the requisite license from the Florida Department of Health so there was nothing indicating that he had the skill and knowledge necessary to give appropriate medical care to the patients that came to him for Botox treatments. Those people who know the man say that he wasn't a danger to anyone but Botox is a medical procedure that should only be done by doctors trained to do it.

Question of the Day: Should people who give illegal Botox injections be subject to penalty under felony laws?

Non-Invasive Fat Procedures
People who go to the cosmetic surgeon to get their fat removed usually fall into one of two categories. First there are those who are actually obese and who will need to get a weight loss surgery. And then there are those who are slightly overweight and who want to get a procedure like liposuction. But these two categories are no longer the only two categories in the world of fat-busting cosmetic procedures. There is a rapidly growing segment of the weight loss community that is seeking out non-invasive procedures for getting rid of body fat.

The procedures that can be used to get rid of body fat without having to "go under the knife" include laser surgeries, ultrasound energy treatments and fat-busting injections. Which of these types of procedures will end up prevailing as the most popular way to get rid of fat thruogh non-invasive surgery will be determined as time goes on and the methods are tried and tested by various patients.

Two of the most popular treatments at the current time are reportedly SmartLipo and Vaser Liposuction. SmartLipo is a laser surgery that removes fat whereas Vaser Lipo is an ultrasound energy method of fat reduction. Both are intended for healthy people who are only slightly overweight.

Question of the Day: What is the best non-invasive method of removing fat from the body?

Botox vs. Wrinkle Creams
There is an article available online this week which takes a look at the pros and cons of using wrinkle creams and the pros and cons of using Botox for the purpose of getting rid of wrinkles. The report seems to favor wrinkle creams and ultimately says that Botox is riskier and more costly so people should opt for a cream-based anti-aging regimen instead. However, there remain some good reasons to choose a non-invasive cosmetic procedure such as Botox rather than using these creams.

The main reason that you would choose Botox over wrinkle creams is that Botox has a higher rate of success in eliminating wrinkles. There is very little proof that wrinkle creams are actually effective. Additionally, the results of Botox treatments begin to appear immediately. And while it's argued that wrinkle creams cost less, the fact is that you have to use them every day for years on end to achieve results whereas the Botox bill only comes in intervals.

It is also important to note that Botox is not the only option out there for non-invasive cosmetic surgery used to treat wrinkles. There are a variety of different dermal fillers on the market now. Those people who have concerns about the use of Botox may find that one of these other dermal fillers can reduce those concerns while offering better results than a wrinkle cream.

Question of the Day: Are wrinkle creams ever better to use than anti-wrinkle dermal fillers are?

Laser Hair Removal Isn't Just For Your Face
People who go to the dermatologist or med spa specifically to get laser hair removal services are most often looking to remove hair from the face. Hair that grows above the lip on women or excessive facial hair on either gender can be embarassing. Laser hair removal offers long-term removal of that hair so that you don't have to be embarassed by it anymore. In fact, you don't even have to think about it anymore!

Although people primarily get laser hair removal on the face, it is notable that this is not the only place on the body that laser hair removal can be useful for. In fact, there are other embarassing hairy areas of the body that laser hair removal can be great in treating. For example, one article recently talked about getting your feet ready for sandals and it mentioned that laser hair removal is great for long-term removal of embarassing hair on the toes. Laser hair removal can be done on most parts of the body so it's something to ask your doctor about next time you go in.

Question of the Day: Where are the best places on the body to get laser hair removal?

New Pain-Reducing Dermal Filler Released
There is a new generation of dermal fillers that is beginning to hit the market this year and which could end up being very appealing to a wide demographic. These dermal fillers serve the same purposes as the dermal fillers that you can already get from your dermatologist; they reduce wrinkles and offer anti-aging plumping effects for the face. However, these dermal fillers have an added bonus - they include an anesthetic which helps to reduce the pain of the dermal filler injection.

Most people will tell you that the dermal filler injection really isn't all that painful. However, some people do find it uncomfortable. And even those who find it tolerable wouldn't exactly mind using a product that reduces the sting. After all, we all want to be as comfortable as we possibly can, right? With anesthetic included in the product, the dermal filler injection is practically painless.

One such new product has been released to the market and should be available in the offices of some dermatologists soon. The product is called Elevess and it has been released by Artes Medical. It is a hyaluronic acid based dermal filler (or HA dermal filler) which is a popular choice for patients seeking anti-aging injections.

Question of the Day: Will this new generation of pain-free dermal fillers replace the old ones that have been in use in recent years?

Celebrity Botox: Pamela Anderson
Pamela Anderson is no stranger to plastic surgery. She is also not shy about getting minimally invasive cosmetic surgery procedures (like Botox) to reduce the appearance of aging in her face. However she must not think that the results are as perfect as she would have liked them to be because she has issued a series of instructions for the filming of her new reality TV show that involved being more flattering to her appearance.

Anderson apparently doesn't want the cameras to ever zoom in too closely on her face because this could show signs of aging. This is true. Even the best Botox in the world is going to have limited effects especially as time passes between treatments. When you're talking about a close-up face in HD on a large TV screen, you're talking about trouble. Pam seems to know that.

Learn more about her reality TV show and the demands she has made for filming from this article.

Question of the Day: Should Pamela Anderson continue to get cosmetic treatments if the desired effects aren't perfect?

Doctors Recommended Over Cosmeceuticals
There is a term that has cropped up in the beauty industry in recent years which has caused a lot of debate. That term is "cosmeceuticals". It refers to those beauty products that are said to have medical / pharmaceutical benefits although they are available over the counter without the advice of a doctor to recommend their use. A new report indicates what most of us have already known - that it is best to go see a cosmetic doctor to get proper treatments for cosmetic issues than to pay a lot of money for these types of products without ever being seen by a doctor.

Cosmeceuticals may or may not achieve the desired results - usually anti-aging results - that a patient is seeking. They are expensive and they are unreliable according to experts in the industry. In contrast, the results achieved by seeing a cosmetic doctor tend to be much more assured. And although these treatments can sometimes be expensive, they may be less expensive than the ongoing use of the cosmeceutical products which also don't come cheap. In fact the cosmeceutical business is a $12 billion business and growing!

These products actually may sometimes have the benefits that they claim to have. However, it is always best to see a doctor prior to using products that are designed to make changes to the body or skin. A doctor-recommend product is more likely to be specifically capable of meeting your needs than is one that is simply purchased off of the shelf somewhere without a consultation.

Question of the Day: Do cosmeceuticals work and if so, can they replace the choice to see a cosmetic doctor?

New Law Makes Botox in Nevada Too Expensive
There is a new medical law on the books in Nevada that has driven the costs of Botox injections sky high and make it practically impossible for patients to continue to get their Botox treatments in the area. The law wasn't intended to target Botox but managed to cause this problem nonetheless which brings to the surface the old issue of how to classify Botox in the medical world.

Basically what happened was that there was an outbreak of Hepatitis C in a hospital which caused significant (and well-founded) concern. This prompted the enactment of regulations that prohibit doctors from administering medication from single-dose vials to more than one patient. In most cases, this is a wise move because it keeps patients safe. But in the case of Botox, it means that patients have to pay more for the "medicine".

Learn more here.

Question of the Day: Should Botox injections fall under the same state regulations as other medications?
