Broccoli and Skin Cancer

Physicians are hoping to develop a skin-cancer treatment product made from broccoli extracts. Past research shows that broccoli aids in preventing and reducing respiratory inflammation, which is often times linked to causing asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Press TV reports, "According to a new study conducted at Penn State College of Medicine, the extract of broccoli and cabbage acts as a potent drug against melanoma, an invasive form of skin cancer. The isothiocyanates found in cruciferous vegetables inhibit the development of melanoma through targeting the Akt3 protein."

The research shows that these such extracts were 30-70 percent better at combating melanoma than conventional treatment methods. Scientists believe this preliminary research will lead to the development of anti-skin cancer medications, lotions and prevention techniques.
