Chocolate that Fights Wrinkles. No, really.
Better than a golden ticket! The biggest chocolate maker in the world says it might've found a chocolate bar that fights wrinkles and slows down the aging process. A Reuter's article published today says "Eating 20 g (0.755 oz) of specially developed chocolate packed with antioxidants, or flavanols, each day may help prevent wrinkles and make skin more radiant by boosting elasticity and improving hydration, studies carried out by Barry Callebaut showed."

This new, 'healthy' chocolate is said to be developed by preserving the flavanols naturally found in the cocoa beans, allowing them to survive the chocolate-making process and enrich the final product. Flavanols are known for reducing the damage caused by free-radicals, which are caused by things like smoking, pollution, and lack of sleep. Flavanols may also reduce blood pressure, so including this chocolate in your diet could help you stay healthy from the inside out.

Fit Beauty into the Budget: Affording Your Cosmetic Treatment
In the current economic times, you may feel that your cosmetic dreams are just that. But with so many options available for managing the cost of cosmetic procedures, why wait to make your dreams become reality?

Check out these options when exploring the best way to afford your treatment:

Financing: A growing number of lending companies are specializing in loans and financing packages specifically for cosmetic treatments. Your specialist may be able to recommend a reputable one that the facility has an existing relationship with.

Gift: Cosmetic treatment 'gifts' are becoming increasingly popular. Whether from a loved one, friend, or employer, the gift of a rejuvenated look is something you'll be able to enjoy every day.

Insurance: Depending on the procedure you're interested in, your health insurance company may be able to cover some or all of the cost of the treatment. For example, if you have painful varicose veins, laser and other treatments may be covered because there is a 'medical need.' A physician will probably need to verify this need to the insurance company, so be sure to ask your provider what is required to qualify for coverage.

Discounts: If you are planning to get multiple treatments, consider having them performed at the same time. Many facilities offer significant discounts for second, third, and fourth procedures performed on the same day, and you get the benefit of time and money—recovery time is shortened, and you get to start enjoying your new look right away!

Don't let finances get in the way of a fresh start. Contact a skin care specialist to learn more about your payment options, and realize your aesthetic dreams today!

Wrinkles Scarier than Cancer? Ask Indoor Tanners
The dangers of indoor tanning have been in the limelight in the past few months, as additional taxation of indoor tanning treatments approaches. But many young people aren't responding to messages of the medical dangers of indoor tanning--you know, how it can cause skin cancer and stuff. Instead, as shown in a study published Monday in Archives of Dermatology, young women responded much more to messages threatening wrinkles and premature aging rather than those warning of skin cancer.

In a study of 430 young women who indoor tan, half were offered a booklet explaining radiation's effects on the skin, i.e. wrinkles. The results of the study concluded that "... Appearance-focused interventions, when grounded in strong theoretical models that have been empirically verified, can have robust, clinically significant effects on UV risk behaviors even in subpopulations with strong nonappearance tanning motives." You can find the abstract of the study by clicking here.

Botox Bruises Got You Down? Try Vbeam Perfecta
One of the very few downsides to dermal injection products like Botox, Juvederm, and other dermal fillers is that bruising can occur around the treatment areas. This bruising can persist for up to 14 days--a turn off when you want to start enjoying your results, but are held back by a purple tinge.

But some dermatologists are recommending a new protocol to reduce or prevent bruising after dermal injections. Vbeam Perfecta and other pulse-dyed laser treatments can help with dermal bruising, allowing your to start showing off your dermal injection results right after treatment. Check out this interview with a cosmetic specialist talking about how Vbeam Perfecta can help with bruising.

Say Yes to SPF! Surprising Ways to Protect Your Skin this Summer
As the weather begins to warm up, skin that's been hibernating all winter is especially susceptible to becoming sunburned. But greasing yourself up with slimy sunblock isn't the only option when it comes to protecting your skin from the sun's powerful rays. Here are a few surprising ways to get your SPF coverage:

1. Use cosmetics that contain an SPF. Many women already use foundation or powdered mineral products on a daily basis to even and enhance skin tone. There are plenty of formulas now available both in drugstores and department stores that contain an SPF--so your skin is beautified and protected in one easy step.

2. Look for clothing designed for sun protection. Most fabrics don't protect the skin from UV damage much at all, leaving the skin under regular clothing in need of almost as much protection as exposed skin. Fabric that does contain significant SPF is becoming more widely available--Nike®, Reebok®, Liz Claiborne® and Sportif® have used SPF fabrics for their apparel, headwear, swimwear, tents and umbrellas.

3. Use SPF-rich Body Lotions. Again, many companies are making versions of their products, or completely new products, that are designed with you protection in mind. Body lotions are often less greasy and may smell better than traditional sunblock, but be sure to check the level of SPF that the lotion contains--often lotions don't offer the protection a high-SPF sunblock can. You may even be able to find a sunless tanning product with an SPF; providing protection and a golden glow at the same time.

Remember, always consult your dermatologist for personalized information about skin care and sun protection. To learn more about the sun and skin, Click Here, or Contact a Local Specialist.

Tanning Tax Got You Down? Try Sunless Tanning
A new tax targeting indoor tanning will be put into affect July 1st, 2010, and has many fans of the bronzed bod worried. Dermatologists support the tax, saying it will help support safer tanning practices and cut down on skin cancer.

But shunning the tanning booth doesn't mean your glow has to fade. A huge variety of sunless tanning products are available, both in stores and through spas and salons. Creams and sprays are formulated for different skin types, providing even the fairest among us the ability to achieve a sun-kissed glow--without the damage and risk of cancer.

Spray tanning is another popular option, which is especially effective for those wishing for a perfectly even, all-over tan. Available at skin care spas and through mobile vendors (tanning party, anyone?), a spray tan gives a customizable even tone to skin that can last for weeks.

Mohs Surgery for Skin Cancer featured on Good Morning America
Today, reporters on ABC's 'Good Morning America' discussed Mohs Micrographic Surgery, a revolutionary skin cancer treatment that offers the best cure rate of melanoma. A primary feature of Mohs Surgery is that it minimizes damage to tissue surrounding the treatment area, which makes healing faster, minimizes discomfort, and preserves the cosmetic appearance of the treatment area as much as possible.

This cutting-edge treatment requires highly specialized physicians that serve as surgeon, pathologist and reconstructive surgeon. Mohs Surgery is most commonly used to remove non-melanoma skin cancers, like basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, or tumors where specific indications apply.

No general anesthetic is required for Mohs Surgery. Instead, a local anesthetic is used to numb the area being treated, enabling many patients to return to their normal activities right away.

Does Botox Actually Cause Wrinkles?
A new study published by the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology reports that using Botox may actually cause additional wrinkles. But before Botox fans start working on their worry lines, it's important to understand specifically what the study notes, and what it doesn't.

Dr David Becker, an assistant professor of dermatology at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, says that when a patient uses botox to immobilize certain areas of the face, other facial muscles will remain active when the patient tries to express emotion. Since any repeated muscle movement can cause wrinkles over time, the study is recognizing that the face will still move even with Botox in certain areas, and those movements can cause wrinkles.

Additionally, it is noted that the movement of muscles untreated by Botox may result in more 'non-traditional' wrinkles. Rather than "crow's feet" wrinkles around the eyes, a "bunny line," or horizontal line across the bridge of the nose, may appear. If this is a concern for you, discuss it with your skin care specialist or cosmetic dermatologist.

Skin Tyte: Defy Gravity's Pull on Your Skin!

Have you heard of Skin Tyte? The revolutionary skin firming procedure was recently featured on an episode of "The Doctors" television show on CBS. This non-invasive treatment designed to firm sagging skin is thought to be safer and require far less downtime than a traditional facelift.

Skin Tyte addresses multiple signs of aging, including skin sagging, age spots, sun damage, and redness. That means that almost anyone suffering from these conditions, including those with Rosacea, Acne Scars, and Fine Lines and Wrinkles, could benefit from Skin Tyte's incredible use of photo technology.

Here's how it works: a broadband light energy is directed at the skin in whatever body area you want to appear firmed and toned. The dual-action energy heats the deep "dermal" layers in the skin, while simultaneously cooling the surface "epidermal" layers. This reduces any patient discomfort, while delivering targeted, powerful results to the deep skin structures for maximum tightening results.

Learn more about this incredible anti-aging procedure, and how it could help you dramatically improve your appearance without going under the knife.
