Pregnancy and Your Skin
|
Pregnancy is a wonderful time in a woman's life where her body is undergoing a tremendous amount of change. Many of these changes also affect the skin as well. Luckily, there are some common remedies to help keep moms-to-be looking great.
Pregnancy often changes a woman's hormone levels and as a result, many women experience acne. Using a gentle foam cleanser once or twice a day should keep your skin under control. Stretch marks are also a common occurrence for pregnant women on their stomachs, hips, and thighs. Vitamin A creams may help diminish their appearance. After delivery, microdermabrasion or laser therapy can also help remove the stretch marks. Melasma or the "mask of pregnancy" is also a common issue. Wearing a daily sunscreen of SPF 15 or SPF 30 to will help reduce the production of melanin by your skin.
By taking extras steps to care for your skin during pregnancy, there will be less needed to repair damage after. A woman should be "glowing" during this time, and should never have to hide away because of acne or pigmentation issues.

Adult Acne
|

The majority of people deal with acne in their lifetime, mostly during teenage years. This includes oily skin, pimples, bumps, and blemishes. As we grow older, we don't expect acne to follow us into our adult years. However, adult acne is a problem that a large majority of people face.
"Teenage acne tends to be on oily skin and consist of blackheads and whiteheads. The difference with adult acne is that adult acne is more often seen on the face, along the jaw line and neck, and is usually accompanied by dryer or combination skin" reports CBS News.
Acne that is left untreated can develop into acne scars on the face, back, neck, and arms. Laser therapy, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or light therapy can be used to clear these scars. Adult acne tends to effect women more than men due to the changing hormone levels in women. In addition, people that have a larger amount of stress in their life are also affected at a higher rate. There are a majority of over-the-counter creams to help treat adult acne and those suffering should consult a dermatologist for proper treatments.

Botox Bus
|

For patients looking to get anti-aging treatments done in easy locations at their own convenience, there is now a 'Botox Bus' in Orange County. The ' Real Housewives of Orange County' would be thrilled by this new prospect in the cosmetic dermatology industry. Dr. Donna Richardson the medical director at Destinations Medical Spa of Newport Beach has created the mobile dermatology clinic. Alongside Botox injections, patients can get their fix of other cosmetic enhancements like laser, facial fillers and microdermabrasion.
The doctor told the OC Metro, "...unique, hygienic mobile services are designed to meet the needs of individuals who want and need non-invasive cosmetic procedures but are unwilling to travel to a medical spa facility for a variety of personal reasons."
This type of at-home Botox may be a big hit with soon to be brides who offer Botox for their bridesmaids at many bridal showers. So the women of Orange County should be ecstatic about the newest trend to hit the OC.

More Affordable Anti-Aging
|

So you've lost your job or your fearful of losing your job? Well no doubt you've added a wrinkle or two or twenty, but with the current economic climate you cannot afford to spend thousands on a face-lift or hundreds on regular Botox injections. There are more cost-efficient and viable options for anti-aging in the market. Of course the occasional Botox injection is a great idea, and couple that with some home remedies and you may be able to get rid of those recession blues.
The Huffington Post outlined a few tips for better skincare and wrinkle-care, " Retin A, Vitamin C Serum, sunscreen, microdermabrasion, bleaching agent, soft cleanser and moisturizer." Later the article says, "The regime Dr. Gmyrek recommends is use of Retin-A at night, the vitamin C serum in the morning before your moisturizer and sunscreen and moisturizer. You didn't get those wrinkles in a wink and you can't wink them away overnight"
When the wrinkles attack and the markets plummet, just calm yourself and your skin down with some love and skincare. It won't make a hefty dent in your wallet either!

Forgotten Gem
|

The buzz around town and globally is clearly Botox, anti-aging and facial fillers. The minimally-invasive procedures are a hit from Brazil to San Francisco. But many of us have forgotten about one of the best strategies for healthier, revitalized and younger skin - microdermabrasion and chemical peels. For years the two of these procedures were the hot studs in town, but now with Botox still thriving in a dwindling economy, its proving that it's here to stay. Although Botox is a wonder at wrinkle-ridding, these two more cost efficient techniques will take up less of your time and be considerably more hassle free.
"The range of muscle relaxants and dermal fillers is much better today," he says. "And the demand for these types of non-invasive procedures will continue to grow. There has been a lot of research over the past decade into non-surgical techniques. Ten years ago the only things really available were facelifts and laser resurfacing. Now there are new lasers that actually work beneath the skin with less pain and better recovery times." (Sydney Morning Herald)
If you're worried about pinching pennies right now, perhaps very expensive invasive procedures and injections like Juvederm, Restylane and Botox are not the wisest options.

Extreme Botox Addicts
|

The love for anti-aging wonders like Botox has reached new heights. According to morticians around the US, people are requesting that their loved ones be given Botox injections once they are dead, so the loved one can look healthier if there is an open-casket funeral. However, this controversial request is stirring up anger and disbelief in headlines. Some of the other people requested for lip plumping, microdermabrasion, and at extreme levels of obsession even lifting drooping jowls.
Often times morticians do a small touch-up to the deceased, but this is taking cosmetic enhancement to a whole new level. Really how vain can we be? Has society lost the ability to mourn and grieve their loved ones passing? Or are many of us still too cosmetic and superficially driven? Some people reported to MSNBC, they feel cosmetic enhancements on the deceased or making a request for themselves prior to dying (like a will), is completely appropriate and lets them look their finest at the last time people can see them. I suppose we'll see in the near future if this trend continues to gain popularity or if it stirs up more controversy and anger.

No Downturn for Quick Cosmetic Fixes
|
Before the inauguration party kicks in, don't forget your Botox injections! USA Today is reporting that in lieu of the soon-to-be President Obama's inauguration festivities, people are lining up by the droves for Botox. And I thought people were scrounging for money in the midst of the recent global financial crisis, this just proves, beauty is not a cost you can afford to cut. The USA Today article says, "Washington, D.C.-area cosmetic dermatologists, and skin experts in other major cities, say despite the sagging economy, requests for quickie cosmetic fixes, such as Botox and microdermabrasion, have picked up during the last few weeks as people pretty-up for inaugural fetes" The report later said, that in recent months cosmetic dermatologists were feeling the brunt of the economic downturn, reporting major losses. DC dermatologists should be happy with the turnaround during inauguration time. So forget-a-bout the popping bottles of dom, get a prick of botox!

Winter Woes
|
With cold temperatures approaching this winter your skin can take quite the toll that is if it already hasn't. Cold weather can cause skin to lose its summer bronze and glow. Freezing temperatures means dried out and irritated skin. Winter doesn't just mean bad skin health; it also means added stress with a bustling Holiday household filled with parties and relatives. With the party planning comes a negligent skincare regiment. By disregarding your skin during these dry months, wrinkles, crackling and aging lines take over.
With such negative effects because of winter it is vital to routinely increase skincare treatments and seek out aid from professional treatments like Botox, facial fillers and microdermabrasion. Typically the low humidity and dry airs are the primary causes of winter skin ailments. Similarly, for those of you holidaying this upcoming month, carry on moisturizing creams and face wash because the added cold air produces even more serious skin problems like eczema.

Teens Would Pay To Never Have Had Acne
|
Most teens have to deal with the awkward situation of experiencing a lot of acne development during at least short phases in their young lives. Some teens have it worse than others. And for many, the emotional scars of having acne last for a long time after the physical appearance of the problem has gone away.
Perhaps that is why teens would be willing to pay a good chunk of change to have never had acne in the first place. A new study reveals that teens would pay an average of $275 to not have to have gone through the problems associated with acne. That doesn't sound like a lot of money to some adults but that's a big chunk of a teen's allowance and points to the fact that teens remain uncomfortable with acne despite the fact that it's a problem plaguing most of their peers.
The good news, of course, is that teens and adults can both pay to reduce the appearance of acne and the physical changes that it causes to the face. Acne scars are common and are something that adults can choose to get removed using a variety of different skin procedures including microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing and chemical peels.
Question of the Day: How much would you be willing to pay to have never had acne as a teen?

Most Common Procedures for Males
|
If you don't know that men are increasingly the ones heading to the skin rejuvenation specialist then you don't know much at all about trends in the industry because that is the one which is currently leading the way. But what exactly are men getting done when they head to the doctor for non-invasive cosmetic procedures?
The leading procedures requested by men are:
- Botox. - Laser Hair Removal. - Microdermabrasion - Laser Resurfacing - Dermal Fillers
In other words, guys are getting done almost the same popular procedures that women are getting at their doctor's office. Both genders find that these procedures allow them to fight the physical impact of aging on the body and remain appealing to the opposite sex into later years.
Question of the Day: Is it surprising that men are getting the same cosmetic treatments as women are?
