Botox
Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is used in very small doses to block certain muscle contractions and spasms. In 2002, the FDA announced the approval of botulinum toxin type A (BOTOX Cosmetic) to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). Botox is now commonly used to treat wrinkles on the forehead, around the eyes and mouth, and on the neck. BTX-A has also been approved for the treatment of excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).
Broad Band Light
Broad band light (BBL) is a non-surgical skin treatment modality that utilizes many wavelengths of light energy to treat skin imperfections. BBL is used to remove age spots, freckles, brown spots, red spots, sun damage and some types of hyperpigmentation. BBL is also very effective for most subtypes of rosacea. In certain skin types, it even removes unwanted hair.
Cosmoderm & Cosmoplast
CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast are filler agents made of human collagen. They are used to fill in unwanted lines and wrinkles or add definition to your lip border. Treatments with CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast usually take only a few minutes and can last 3-4 months. CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast require only one office visit. Made from human collagen, they offer important advantages over older non-human collagen fillers.
• Eliminate fine lines, wrinkles and scars
• Add definition to lip borders and fill in those annoying vertical lip lines
• Same day, single-visit treatment
• No pre-treatment skin test required
• Short treatment and recovery time
• Formulated with an anesthetic for comfort
Laser Hair Removal
Nd-YAG High Speed Laser Hair Removal is excellent for the reduction of unwanted hair and ingrown hairs in any area, including underarms, bikini, beard, mustache, face and ears. This treatment must be performed 5 to 8 times for best results: 10-30% regrowth is expected at the end of therapy. Lasers can significantly reduce hair growth, but they cannot stop all hair growth permanently.
Radiesse
Radiesse® is an FDA-approved, dermal filler that is setting a new standard for the correction of facial lines and wrinkles such as nasolabial folds. Made of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel, Radiesse is injected into the skin through a simple and minimally invasive procedure giving immediate, visible improvement of folds and wrinkles, and providing long-lasting and beautiful results. In many patients, the effects of Radiesse last a year or more. Offering clinically proven safety and longevity, Radiesse is a convenient treatment that stimulates the body to produce new collagen — often with just one or two office visits. Radiesse cannot be used for lip augmentation or in the eyelids, but it is ideal to correct volume loss in other areas of the face.
Juvederm / Perlane / Restylane
HYALURONIC ACID FILLERS: JUVEDERM, PERLANE AND RESTYLANE
Hyaluronic acid is a natural part of the ground substance of normal skin. Aging skin loses hyaluronic acid over time, which can contribute to wrinkling and laxity. Hyaluronic acid fillers do not require allergy testing prior to administration. These products temporarily correct wrinkles and volume loss. Hyaluronic acid fillers are broken down and eliminated completely by the body after 6-12 months, unlike permanent fillers.
RESTYLANE
Restylane™ is a crystal-clear, non-animal, biodegradable hyaluronic acid gel. The gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The result is instantaneous enhancement of the skin and soft tissues. Restylane lasts for approximately 6-9 months. Injections can burn and so nerve blocks are performed in the mouth prior to Restylane™ injection. There is soreness and bruising in treated areas for 2-7 days after the injections.
JUVEDERM
Juvéderm™ is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid that can add volume and hydration and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds—the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth). With Juvéderm™ the injection process takes only about 15 minutes and results are immediate. There is minimal recovery or downtime, although bruising may occur after injections. Juvéderm™ lasts for approximately 9-12 months.
PERLANE
Perlane™ is a hyaluronic acid filler that restores volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the nasolabial folds. Swelling, redness, pain, and bruising usually follows treatment for 1-2 weeks. Although rare, red or swollen small bumps may occur. Perlane is excellent for deeper wrinkle correction because it is slightly thicker than other hyaluronic acid fillers.
Vein Removal
Spider Veins or telangiectasia, are small, dilated, tortuous red or blue blood vessels (capillaries) that are visible on the skin surface. They occur in areas where there is accumulation of fluid in the skin, such as the legs and ankles. Chronic fluid accumulation in these areas can result from gravitational forces on the veins, injuries, weight gain or medications. Chronic fluid accumulation can eventually damage valves within large veins leading to backflow of blood and body fluids into the skin. Spider veins arise on the skin surface as a natural accommodation to this backflow.
Injection sclerotherapy is characterized by the micro-injection of a sclerosing (scarring) solution into these tiny capillaries. The sclerosing solution irritates the inner lining of the capillaries so that they eventually scar closed and become invisible. FDA-approved sclerosants include hypertonic saline and Sodium Tetradecyl Sulfate (Sotradecol or STS).
Sclerotherapy can also be performed using a laser that targets small blood vessels. This type of laser is called a vascular laser; there are many different types of vascular laser. Laser sclerotherapy is usually not as effective for larger veins, compared to injection sclerotherapy. The combination of both injection and laser sclerotherapy techniques (Nd-Yag Vascular Laser) is often performed, depending on the specific needs of each individual.
Sclerotherapy does not harm the circulation. Brown discoloration (hyperpigmentation) may appear on the skin after injections, and it gradually fades over months, but sometimes over years. Pain during injections is reported by patients as very slight. Fading of spider veins is a slow process and maximum improvement may require many months and two or more treatments. Compression stockings should be worn after the treatment for up to 1 week; this helps to promote permanent closing, scarring and disappearance of the tiny vessels.
