Wrinkle Treatment-Restylane

Restylane is a relatively newer and safer cosmetic dermal filler that can help restore body volume and add fullness to the skin. Because of this property, it is widely used to treat and correct wrinkles on the face. The short term results reveal that Restylane produces good results for the treatment of wrinkles and other facial defects.

Restylane is made up from a natural body substance called hyaluronic acid. When injected, Restylane has the ability to retain water from the body and maintain shape of the surrounding tissues. By filling the lower layers of the skin, it erases the wrinkles and fines lines, giving the face a youthful face, fuller lips and a contoured smoother face.

Because it is free of any animal proteins, the risk of disease transmission or the development of allergies is almost nil.

The procedure is done in an office under local anesthesia using a very fine needle. The procedure may take up to 30 minutes and is painful.

The most common areas treated include:

- around the nose

- lips

- cheeks

- chin

- back of the hands

- between eyebrows

After your treatment, there is always some redness or swelling which usually resolves in 5-7 days. One should avoid outdoor activities until the swelling has resolved. Pregnant females or those who are breast feeding are not candidates for Restylane.

Restylane is not done if someone has:

- skin infection

- skin trauma

- bruising of the skin

- recent chemical peel

Side effects of Restylane include:

- pain

- tenderness

- itching

- bruising

- swelling

- headaches

- fatigue

Despite all the hype about the durability of Restylane, all individuals need follow up treatments to maintain their looks. On average, 1-2 sessions per year are required. Restylane treatments only last 4-6 months

Restylane produces good results in about 75% of individuals. Since it is not long lasting, repeat treatments are required in future.

Because there are so many people performing Restylane injections, the quality of results is variable. For the best results and least side effects, find a physician who is both qualified and trained with the use of Restylane

Since you will be paying for the procedure, ask questions and do not be shy to ask about:

- the physician's credentials

- before and after photographs of prior patients

- the number of treatments you will get

- possible side effects/complications

Cost

Cost varies based on amount of Restylane injected and severity of condition. The average cost for Restylane injections ranges from $350 to $800 per syringe.
