Pelleve is a new FDA approved cosmetic procedure designed to tighten existing collagen and to encourage the production of new collagen. Pelleve uses a high frequency medical grade radiowave to target the collagen under the skin. It is a not considered a surgical procedure and is not categorized as invasive. It is a short procedure that can be performed in an office and does not require a hospital visit.
Collagen is responsible for a fresh and youthful appearance. As we age, collagen breaks down and causes skin to loosen, sag, and wrinkle. This wrinkling can cause the skin to look aged, tired, and dull. Pelleve is FDA approved for the treatment of mild to moderate wrinkles. It works by concentrating heat beneath the surface of the skin that tightens the collagen and encourages the body to produce more collagen. The FDA approval is for skin types I through IV.
Treatments take roughly 45 minutes and require no anesthesia. During the procedure patients report a warming sensation that is usually well tolerated and does not require skin cooling or pain medications. Due to the fact that patients are alert during the procedure, they can provide valuable feedback to the cosmetic surgeon that will increase the effectiveness of the treatment.
Pelleve treatments typically provide instant results and continue to provide results over the next few months as the body generates new collagen. The number of required treatments varies from patient to patient and can be discussed during a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon. Patients will experience some redness at the treatment site that typically fades in few days, although for some people the redness lasts a few weeks. Due to the short procedural time, lack of anesthesia, and easily tolerated mild side effects, Pelleve treatments can fit into the busiest of schedules.
