How is VelaShape Performed?

VelaShape is a simple, non-invasive body contouring procedure that is completed on an outpatient basis in a doctor’s office, cosmetic surgery clinic or medspa. It does not require general or local anesthesia, and there are no injections or cutting of the skin. Patients most often report that VelaShape treatment sessions are relaxing and comfortable, with pleasant feelings of deep heat and massage. Sessions generally run between 20 minutes and one hour, depending on the area to be treated, and patients are able to drive home or back to work and resume activities immediately after each session.

After a pre-procedure consultation, patients will arrive for their VelaShape treatment session and be positioned comfortably on a treatment table. Patients may be positioned on their back or on their stomach, depending on the areas of the body to be treated. VelaShape is most commonly used on the thighs, abdomen, buttocks and love handles, and more than one area can be treated in a single session. If one area is treated, patients can expect the session to last between 20 and 40 minutes, depending on the size of the area.

During the procedure, the provider will use a handheld device to administer the treatment to the target areas. As the device is moved over the skin, a combination of vacuum suction, infrared light, radio frequency energies and special rollers designed to smooth the skin’s surface is used to smooth and tighten skin, reduce the appearance of cellulite and deliver heat to fat deposits, while encouraging metabolic activity to promote reduction in the size of fat cells. If the patient experiences a slight pinching during the treatment, the provider should be notified and can rectify this by adjusting the tension on the specialized rollers.

After the session is complete, patients can immediately leave the provider’s office and return to regular activities.
