Restylane Recovery and Results

Following your treatment with Restylane dermal filler, some men and women may experience slight redness, swelling, bruising and mild discomfort or stinging that will subside soon after the procedure is completed. In some cases, swelling and bruising may persist for several days following the procedure. Bruising and redness can be covered by makeup, which may be applied immediately after treatment.

Your Restylane treatment specialist will likely advise you to avoid rubbing or massaging the area to prevent the filler from spreading to other areas, and to enable your results to last for a longer period of time. Most specialists advise patients to avoid prolonged sun exposure and to avoid extremes of temperature for several weeks following the procedure. You also will need to protect the area with sunscreen.

Depending upon the areas being treated, you may require more than one treatment to achieve the look you desire. In cases where additional injections are required, you may be asked to wait until initial swelling disappears before a new session is scheduled.

Restylane is a very long lasting product. Because it is a naturally occurring product, Restylane will be slowly and safely reabsorbed into the body over a period of time. Most men and women treated with Restylane can expect their results to last for six months or longer, depending upon the treatment area. In some cases, especially in lip augmentation procedures, additional touchup treatments may be required to keep your results at their optimum levels. Most individuals will need to consider retreatments of the area within six months to one year of their initial treatment.

Side effects of Restylane treatment are rare, and include infection and allergic reaction. In some rare cases, Restylane may cause the formation of lumps called granulomas, which may require surgical intervention for removal. Be sure to speak to your specialist about these and any other potential risks or complications of the Restylane procedure.
