About Hyperhidrosis Botox Treatment

Botox treatment for hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is a relatively simple procedure which involves multiple injections to treat a number of individual sweat glands. Prior to the procedure, your specialist will numb the treatment area with a typical anesthetic to reduce or eliminate discomfort associated with the injections, which are made just below the surface of the skin. Most Botox injection procedures require about 15 to 20 minutes to complete, and include about 15 to 20 injections in most individuals.

Botox injections treat men and women with the condition by preventing perspiration in the underarms, as well as other areas of the body. Botox is used in cosmetic surgery procedures to relax dynamic wrinkles by paralyzing the underlying muscles that contract, causing lines to form. In treatment of excessive sweating, the Botox procedure acts to prevent nerve signals from triggering the release of chemicals which cause sweat glands to release perspiration.

Following the Botox injection procedure, patients can immediately resume their regular routines, although there may be some minor temporary discomfort and bleeding in the treatment area. Additional side effects in a few patients may include sore throat, back or neck pain, headache, excessive sweating outside of the treatment area, and fever. The results of the hyperhidrosis treatment usually last for about 6 to 8 months, and the Botox injection procedure can be repeated once results wear off.

The cost of Botox treatment for hyperhidrosis can vary based on location, but generally ranges from $1400 to $2000 in most individuals.
