No, the lasers used for tattoo removal are usually Q switch lasers. Those used for hair removal are quite different wavelengths. However, the lasers used for hair removal cannot be used over an area that has a tattoo because they can cause irregular loss of some of the pigment of the tattoo. THe laser energy is drawn to pigment (color) and a tattoo can therefore cause concentration of the energy in the region of the pigment of the ink, causing potential burn and scar formation.

The lasers used in tattoo removal are not the same ones as are used for hair removal. With that said, your tattoo will most likely be damaged if you use a hair removal laser in the area on top of the tattoo. You have a few choices. Remove the tattoo as well, leave the hair alone or consider a different hair removal technique in this area (other than lasers).

If you are having laser hair removal you must avoid the tattoo.You can be burned if you accidentally use a hair laser on your tattoo.
