Can microdermabrasion be used on non-facial areas?
My decolletage has a lot of age spots and uneven skin. Can I have microdermabrasion on it to improve the tone? What about on my forearms?

Microdermabrasion uses fine crystals to exfolliate the skin. This treatment may lighten spots, but will not get rid of them and the spots will return over time. Lasers, IPL systems and certain chemical peels are the recommended treatment of choice for chest and body areas that have sun damage and freckles.

Microdermabrasion can be done on your face as well as your decolletage, arms, hands or back. Microdermabrasion is commonly used to treat and/or diminish blackheads, whiteheads, fine lines and wrinkles, sun damaged skin, acne prone skin, hyperpigmentation, oily skin and dry or patchy skin. None of the above is intended as medical advice. If you have a medical concern, please consult your doctor.

Basically, microdermabrasion is only working on the superficial layer of dead skin called the stratum corneum. This makes it a very safe procedure and can be used on almost any area of the body.

Microdermabrasion can be performed in these areas, but what you may really be looking for is IPL photofacial to really pull some pigment out. Starting with a microderm of the region, to reduce the dead skin cell layer, then doing an IPL photofacial of the region is a good plan. Obagi makes a good product for the decolletage called "Elastidem Decolletage System" which addresses the pigment and the roughness or crepiness as well.

Yes you can have a Microdermabrasion or Vibradermabrasion on your decolletage, hands, feet, neck arms and back. For your decolletage I would also recommend combining it with a package of IPL PhotoFacial treatments to improve results. The IPL RejuveLux Photofacial helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, skin blemishes such as sun damage, dark pigment, discoloration, freckles and age spots. The results are glowing, smooth, and blemish-free skin and a more youthful appearance.

Microdermabrasion is an excellent exfoliating treatment for off face skin such as chest and arms. I recommend use on the chest especially prior to laser skin rejuvenation treatment. Microdermabrasion will polish the skin, making it smooth and luminous, also will allow laser treatments to be more effective. Spots will not be significantly affected by microdermabrasion and are best treated by FotoFacial (IPL) treatment.

Within reason, microdermabrasion can be used wherever one has skin. There are some parts of the body however that may be too sensitive and should be avoided, like the bathing suit area.

Yes, microdermabrasion and/or chemical peels can be used on the areas you suggest. Different settings and/or peeling agents may be used as these areas are often more sensitive than the face. This should be discussed with a trained medical professional before you begin.
