When there is inflammation of the skin, whether due to a rash, acne or other cause, it can leave behind post inflammatory hyperpigmentation in the area that was affected. Otherwise it does not contribute to sun damage. ANy abnormal pigment can be lightened with an IPL photofacial.

No, poison Ivy can not be treated with chemical peels. Long term sun
exposure caused the sun spots.

There is no correlation between the development of sun spots after your
exposure to the poison ivy. The poison ivy may be treated with
anti-histamines and other topical lotions that are available in your local
drug stores. If these over-the-counter products do not help than you need
to see your physician. Depending on your skin type and the severity of the
reaction you could develop PIH which is post-inflammatory
hyperpigmentation in the areas where the poison ivy has occured. The sun
spots on your face are related to sun exposure and could be treated with
chemical peels, microdermabrasion, IPL photofacials, or medical grade
skincare that contains products such as hydroquinone 4% or kojic acid. I
would recommend a skin consultation to have any questionable spot(s)
evaluated and after the examination your doctor will educate you on all of
the procedures and help you to decide what treatment options would be best
for you. Your skin type and lifestyle also need to be taken into
consideration. Some treatments that we consider are IPL Photofacials, Vi
Peel, PCA Peels, SilkPeel Dermabrasion with Dermal Infusion, Blanche by
Neocutis, and the Obagi NuDerm System. I would strongly urge you to wear a
sunblock of SPF 30 or more and be sure to reapply it every three to four
hours for maximum protection. I always advise my patients to wear a wide
brim hat whenever they are outside. I hope this helps and good luck!

Your contact with poison ivy should not have contributed to the sun spots on your face. They are totally unrelated. I would not recommend a chemical peel over an area that is broken out from poison ivy because it could lead to some pretty nasty consequences including infection, scars, hyperpigmentation, etc.

Chemical peels may help the sun spots on your face. I also recommend using a good sunscreen from now on to prevent future sun damage from occurring. Please see your skin care professional for recommendations on a good skin care regime to address and prevent sun damage.
