I have rough skin and wrinkles, are Chemical Peels the best treatment?

My face has an orange peel texture and I have medium depth wrinkles. I am looking for a procedure to help with both of these problems. What would you recommend that would give me the best results?

To deal with rough orange peel skin and wrinkles, we recommend laser resurfacing. CO2 and fractionated devices like the Fraxel work well for both of these problems. Chemical peels exfoliate, but do not tighten moderate to heavy wrinkles. Please have your condition evaluated to determine the best solution for you.

I would recommend Thermage, followed by a series of fractional laser
resurfacing, followed by a high-quality, regular, daily skin care regimen
chosen for you by a reputable esthetician. Periodic peels and hydrafacial
treatments would help too.

I would recommend either Fraxel or CO2 Laser Resurfacing. There is now a
Fractional CO2 Laser treatment available which would give you better results
with fewer treatments.
You would need a consult with a Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon that does
all 3 types of treatments. This way you could have the best opinion for you.

There are many options for lines and texture. Lasers and dermal fillers are some of them. The best way to find out is to come in and let me take a look at what concerns you and I can develop a plan to suit your needs.

From the sounds of it, you will need a minimum of a medium depth TCA
(trichloroacetic acid) peel or laser resurfacing. Light or superficial
chemical peels will show some benefit but will not be long lasting
results.

For the degree of texture problem you are describing, your best bet would be to do a 4 layer TCA peel such as the Obagi Blue Peel. Prior to this peel you should be on Retin A and topical hydroquinone (such as Obagi Clear) for at least 4 weeks. Weaker peels will not likely get you the smoothness you are looking for.

There are a number of options including chemical peels, but unless you are doing a very deep chemical peel (like phenol) that involves days to weeks of downtime, we do not think you will get a good result with chemical peels for wrinkles. Superficial chemical peels may help for orange peel skin. You may want to consider laser resurfacing (there are many types) including Erbium, CO2 and fractional laser resurfacing. These will work better on wrinkles and orange peel skin than superficial chemical peels.

You may also want to consider dermal fillers or Botox for wrinkles.
