Is Blue Light therapy more effective than IPL as an acne treatment?

I’ve tried intense pulse light therapy to try to get rid of my acne, but it wasn’t as effective as I’d hoped. Is Blue Light therapy a better choice for this particular condition?

Blue light is an effective therapy for papular/pustular acne, and is a nice complement to a well constructed acne plan. No one treatment is effective in every acne type, just like no one cream or antiobiotic pill works for everyone. I generally have found Blue Light treatment (Omnilux in my practice) a patient preferred therapy for acne over IPL.
Blue light therapy is effective in destroying the bacteria that causes acne, is well tolerated and virtually free of side effects, but results may take 2-3 months.

Blue light is a good therapy for acne but it does require many treatments and the patient must be consistent.? IPL is not really a treatment for acne at all except for addressing "post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation" (brownish red discolorations) after acne is well controlled.

It's difficult to say which acne program is going to work for you because different programs work for different patients and there are no guarantees for any acne treatment.

In addition to Blu-U treatments and IPL, you may want to consider others. The Blu-U and IPL are designed to kill acne bacteria which is temporary, but they have no effect on the sebaceous (oil) glands, which can represent much of the acne problem for patients. To shrink the sebaceous (oil) gland, you may want to consider laser treatments (neither the Blu-U or IPL is a laser) or even Accutane if your acne is severe enough.
