The active ingredient in Restylane is hyaluronic acid, a compound that is produced naturally by the body. Restylane is the synthetic version of hyaluronic acid, but we have never seen an allergic reaction to Restylane in our practice. Granulomas are bumps caused by inflammation after injection and these can occur even if you are not allergic to the product. Although granulomas do occur in some patients, they can easily be reversed by injecting hyaluronidaise, a product that will break down the Restylane immediately.
