Can you give me some general information on what blue light is, and what conditions it treats the most effectively?

The Blu light is a device called the BLU-U made by a company called DUSA. It is used to control acne by killing off bacteria in the skin. Patients lie under the light for 20 to 30 minutes twice a week to control their acne. You can also use Levulan a topical product that accelerates the effect of Blu-U treatment.

Blue Light Phototherapy is a blue light system that uses a unique, high-intensity blue-violet light to activate bacteria-fighting porphyrins. The porphyrins start a chemical reaction that produces peroxide and destroys the acne bacteria. Blue light, such as the BLU-U is a good way to treat mild to moderate acne. A newer treatment is Blue/Red combination LED therapy, such as the LightWave. The blue light kills the p. acne bacteria, and the
deeper penetrating red light is anti-inflammatory, combating the redness associated with acne.

Blue light is a LED light treatment for acne. It works primarily through an antibacterial effect. It is a gradual therapy that usually is give two times per week for at least eight weeks or longer. Photodynamic Therapy uses a skin sensitizer and blue light for a much more aggressive treatment for difficult acne.
