Will Fotofacial/IPL reduce oil glands?

My face is super oily and I'm looking for a way to slow down the sebaceous glands. What is the best procedure for this?

You would probably do better with microdermabrasion and/or chemical peels. An IPL treatment is for abnormal pigment and blood vessels. It can reduce acne breakouts but not via reduction in sebum. It may have a small effect on pore size.

We do not recommend IPL for oil glands. There are certain wavelengths of lasers (around the 1400 - 1500 nm range) that are shown to have an effect on oil glands, but this is not the same type of light as IPL. We would suggest either the Aramis laser or the Candela Smoothbeam. Accutane can also prevent excess oil production, but does come with side
effects.

Fotofacial by themselves will not affect oil production. However, when combined with Levulan (topical agent that enhances the effect of the IPL treatment) it is believed that this can at least temporarily decrease oil production. The combination of IPL and levulan has been shown to be effective for acne.
