Melasma is a hormonal condition. Treatments such as chemical peels and proper prescription based skincare can help reduce/eliminate the pigmentation from melasma. However, you may have to stay on a skin care regiment and chemical peel regiment for life to help reduce the melasma.

No, chemical peels cannot "eliminate" melasma. Unfortunately, there is no
cure for melasma. Chemical peels can improve melasma depending on which
product you use. One strategy is to peel away some of the pigment with a
chemical peel. Then you can bleach the remaining. One can consider a high
dose hydroquinone product to lighten the pigment. Another product is
Cosmelan which is mixture of bleaching products which include hydroquinone.

Chemical peels can aid in lightening hyperpigmented areas. To best determine if they can be helpful in treating melasma, please consult a medical provider.
