Is having Cosmelan while pregant or breastfeeding safe?

I have done the Cosmelan precedure before and loved the results. Now I am 7 months pregnant, and my melasma is returning with a vengeance due to hormonal changes. Can I do Cosmelan while pregnant or while breastfeeding?

I would not recommend this during pregnancy because there is no data to support it safety during pregancy. It is simply not worth it. You can treat it after the healthy baby is born.

We do not recommend having any cosmetic treatments while pregnant, especially ones like Cosmelan that have hydroquinone as an active ingredient. While the excess pigmentation you see develop during
pregnancy may be unsightly, embarrassing or troubling, it's not worth using any pharmaceutical grade product other than what is absolutely necessary during your pregnancy. Wait until you are finished
breastfeeding to proceed with Cosmelan.

That's a question best answered by your treating OBGYN. In general you should wait until your hormones return to normal levels before treating Melasma.
