Can Profractional Resurfacing flatten raised surgical scars?

I had a scar revision on my forehead more than a year ago. The scars are raised, and I've had several kenalog injections to reduce the areas of inflammation. I've been advised that the next step is profractional laser resurfacing. Will this procedure flatten the scars and minimize their appearance?

Yes, it is possible for the fractional resurfacing procedures to help with hypertropic scars, although in our practice we try to flatten them completely with steroid injections before moving on to laser resurfacing.

We do not work with fractional lasers at our office, but this sounds like a keloid issue. Our recommendation would be to NOT do any type of laser treatments until you see a plastic surgeon. If this is indeed a keloid scar, it is likely that certain procedures may make it worse. If a plastic surgeon thinks it is OK to proceed with lasers, then I would suggest a "test" area before they treat the entire face just to make sure!! BE CAREFUL!!!
