Acne Treatment and Dark Skin Tones

Dark skin tones play a slight role in the cosmetic side effects of some acne treatment options. However, skin tone plays little to no role in the actual effectiveness of any acne treatment available. Those with dark skin tones will notice a near identical outcome in terms of procedural effectiveness, which differs only when patients possess highly different degrees of acne before entering a treatment session.

Dark Skin and Acne Treatment

A dark skin tone sometimes helps decrease the visible side effects of certain acne treatments. For example, dermabrasion and some chemical peels cause redness and swelling. However, those with dark skin tones often notice less redness after these types of procedures finish.

Basic treatments likes creams and lotions prescribed by dermatologists generally cause little to no cosmetic side effects on any patient. Visible side effects from creams and lotions will often include redness. Again, this is a simple side effect that is often hidden by dark complexions.

Other than the ability to hide redness, a basic and non-damaging side effect caused by most acne treatments, a dark complexion will play no other role in either the results or the effectiveness of a procedure. Those with dark skin tones face no increased risk or reward provided by acne treatments when compared to every other patient.
