Initial and Long Term Results of Acne Treatment

Acne treatment, any procedure that aims to reduce the amount of acne on a patient’s skin, serves a wide range of patients. However, the results provided by the large number of acne treatment procedures available do not provide equal results for every patient. In fact, some patients who receive the same procedure will sometimes notice completely different levels of desirable results. A number of factors will contribute to this fluctuation in results.

Initial Results

Most patients will notice redness and mild swelling after receiving an acne treatment. However, due to the large variety of treatments available, initial results will vary. For example, a chemical peel product will undoubtedly cause some degree of redness or skin discoloration with a slight burning feel, while a low level laser treatment typically causes little to no observable or felt effects.

Because many acne treatments work in the same manner, patients generally notice similar initial results, usually none of which include permanent and complete removal of acne.

Long Term Results

The long term effects provided by acne treatments only remain in place when the patient practices healthy and necessary skin care techniques. Techniques such as avoiding foods with high fat and grease content, avoiding hand to face contact, and always remembering to wash the problematic areas that suffer from acne daily with a cleanser will often give patients the best chance to maximize their results.

No acne treatment provides permanent results in the form of complete acne removal. Patients play a large role in the length and the success of acne treatment results.
