How Accent XL is Performed

The Accent XL technique is an innovative non invasive procedure that can reduce the appearance of cellulite and improve the skin’s texture by stimulating the production of collagen. The treatment has received FDA approval for cellulite reduction treatment.

Before the Treatment

Before the treatment, your skin will be analyzed and the target areas will be established. The procedure can be applied on the face, arms, back, stomach, thighs, hips or buttocks; however, cellulite is more frequent on the hip and buttocks area.

The targeted areas will be marked with baby oil and the oil will be spread on the entire area, to facilitate the effects of the laser device and to make it easier for the device to roll on the skin.

You won’t feel any discomfort during the procedure, just some heat, so the administration of an anesthetic is not needed. If you have a sensitive skin or a low pain threshold, the plastic surgeon will recommend you a mild numbing agent, which can be applied on the skin directly before the procedure, or a soothing drug that will be taken prior the Accent XL is performed.

The First Session

The procedure is easy and pleasant and will be performed using a device that will gently massage the targeted areas. The Accent XL is a radiofrequency laser that employs high frequency energy. This device will heat the inner layer of the skin and will cool the outer layer of the skin at the same time; the laser will help shrink the fat cells and visibly reduce the appearance of cellulite.

The device will perform circular moves and will beep once every few seconds. During the treatment you will only feel a gentle massage as well as a sensation of heat. The plastic surgeon will periodically check if the treatment has been equally spread on the entire area. If need be, the plastic surgeon will insist on some areas, where the skin is more bumpy and the cellulite is more visible.

After the device is switched off, the remaining baby oil will be wiped off and you can get back to your regular activities.

The Remaining Treatments

The treatment is administered in several sessions (typically between 3 and 6 scheduled every 2 to 4 weeks). Each treatment session is similar to the first one. It is important to drink plenty of water before and after the procedure to help eliminate the toxins that are released when applying the treatment.

Duration of Treatment

The Accent XL procedure takes about 45 minutes on average, but remember that you need a few more appointments to complete the treatment.

You require no down time, but you may experience some redness and minor swelling. The results will be visible immediately and will also improve in time and after the whole treatment is finalized. On average, you may lose between 0, 5 and 1 inches after each session, totaling up to 3 to 4 lost inches off all the treated areas.
