Conditions that LATISSE Treats

LATISSE ® , a product of the Allergan company, is a treatment intended to help patients develop longer and fuller eyelashes.

Conditions that LATISSE ® Treats

LATISSE ® was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in December of 2008 to treat what is medically called "hypotrichosis of the eyelashes," a condition where eyelash growth is stunted or inadequate. Though some consumer reports refer to this condition as a subjective one, LATISSE ® has helped many patients obtain longer, thicker and fuller lashes.

Conditions Treated with Related Medications

The active ingredient in LATISSE ® , bimatoprost, has been used to treat a variety of medical eye conditions including ocular hypertension and glaucoma. Bimatoprost is a prostaglandin analog. This lipid compound is designed to bind to prostaglandin receptors, which are present in hair. Medical experts have found that this element can be useful in promoting eyelash growth as well as treating medical conditions.

Restrictions on Side Effects for LATISSE ®

Doctors and patients point out some strict limitations for this product. LATISSE ® should only be applied to the specific eyelash area of the eyelid. It should not be applied to other areas of the eyelid, particularly the lower eyelid. LATISSE ® should not be applied outside of the target area, since it can promote hair growth in other areas where it's applied. Side effects include itchiness, red eyes, discoloration of the iris, discoloration of the skin and allergic reactions including inflammation. Talk to doctors before considering a LATISSE ® treatment to know more about possible pros and cons.
