How to Prepare for a Vitalize Peel

Vitalize Peel is a skincare treatment intended to improve the overall appearance of the skin. Performed as an in-office procedure and appropriate for all skin types, this chemical peel exfoliates the top layer of skin and removes signs of aging, sun damage, discoloration and acne scarring. Read the checklist below to learn how to prepare for the procedure.

Prepare the Skin

To obtain the best results and reduce irritation, stop exfoliating and using harsh skincare products two to four weeks before Vitalize Peel. Avoid both sunburns and suntans, including those obtained in a tanning bed, before the procedure. If using a topical retinoid, such as Retin-A or Differin, or any type of depilatory, discontinue using that as well. Remove makeup right before the procedure, and tie or brush your hair back out of your face.

Talk to the Doctor

Discuss your medical history and any medications with your dermatologist before undergoing a Vitalize Peel. Certain medications may cause skin sensitivity or abnormal healing, and should be avoided prior to treatment. You may be asked to wait at least one year after using Accutane to have a Vitalize Peel. The doctor may recommend a different treatment if you have skin allergies, are prone to cold sores and warts in the treatment area, or are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Stop Smoking

Stop smoking at least one month before the procedure. Nicotine can stop the skin from healing as quickly as it should and heighten the risk of infection. If a patient can't quit, they should significantly reduce the number of cigarettes they smoke daily.
