How Radiesse is Performed

Radiesse is considered to be a part of the next generation of injectable dermal fillers. One of the benefits of Radiesse is that it is composed of calcium hydroxylapatite, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body. Calcium hydroxylapatite prompts the body to create new collagen leading to the natural filling of those lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth. Since the main component of this dermal filler is a naturally occurring substance in the body, there is no need to conduct allergy testing prior to treatment and there is no need to worry about an allergic reaction to this dermal filler.

Radiesse is most commonly used to treat those prominent wrinkles around the nose and mouth known as smile lines or marionette lines. It can also be used to treat cheek or chin dimples, sunken cheeks and scarring. Radiesse will plump a patient's skin immediately upon injection and continue to improve over the course of the next week as the dermal filler stimulates the skin to produce it's own collagen. The effects of Radiesse may last up to two years with only minimal touch ups needed.

Treatment Process for Radiesse

The treatment process for Radiesse is a fairly simple process. The doctor will first preform a detailed consultation where he will examine the patient's skin and suggest the areas that will benefit the most from Radiesse treatment. Pre-treatment skin testing for allergies are not needed with Radiesse because it is composed of substances that occur naturally in the body. Most patients can receive the dermal filler the same day of their consultation.

A local anesthetic and antiseptic is applied to the treatment areas a few minutes before the injections occur. Radiesse is injected during an outpatient procedure that can be preformed in a local doctor's office. The entire treatment process usually only takes 15 minutes. Patients are able to leave the office almost immediately after the injection takes place.

Many patients will notice improvement in the look of their skin immediately after the injections take place. The results will continue to improve over the next week or so as the body begins to produce collagen.

Variations in Radiesse Techniques

There may be several variations in the techniques that are used with Radiesse. Each patient may require a different number of injections or a different amount of filler based on their own unique case. Since Radiesse can be used to treat such a wide variety of locations on the face, the doctor will evaluate each treatment site individually. The doctor will then decide on one or more injection sites for each location on the face that is being treated.

After the number of injection sites are determined, the doctor will then decide how much injectable should be used at each treatment site. It is important that the doctor not inject too much filler during treatment because Radiesse will continue to plump the face for up to a week after treatment. Over plumping can occur if too much filler is used at the time of the initial treatment.
