Post-Radiesse Lifestyle & Maintenance

Radiesse is a non–invasive dermal filler, which is injected under the skin to give it a more filled–out appearance. It is used to relieve wrinkles, nasolabial folds, creases between eye brows and perform face contouring. The filler contains microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite, which is found in the body naturally, suspended in water based gel. The procedure involves injecting the filler in small doses, using a small needle, into the target areas. You will be able to see the results instantaneously as the skin gets filled up.

During the procedure, you may experience slight discomfort or pain, in which case a topical anesthetic can be applied over the injected area. Depending on the surface of the area and the number of target areas, the procedure can last anywhere between a few minutes to 40 minutes. Some other uses of Radiesse include treatment for vocal chord insufficiencies, facial lipoatrophy, oral and maxillofacial defects, dental reconstruction, acne scar reduction and nasal reconstruction.

Post–Radiesse: Immediate Measures

Immediately after the treatment, you might experience some swelling, bruising or redness. Applying an ice pack on the injected area will relieve you of any pain. Pain medication can also be taken in case there is increased pain. In the case your physician has recommended more than one treatment session, you will need to ensure they are spaced comfortably apart.

Apart from this, you will need to avoid excessive sun exposure for the next 24 hours. You should also avoid applying any make up on the injected area, and drastic movement of the injected area for the next couple of days. You may also be able to feel the injected material under your skin for a few hours after the treatment, though this will get resolved soon. Also, avoid the use of medication such as aspirin immediately after the treatment, as this may hamper the healing process.

Post–Radiesse: Long term Measures

You can return to your normal activities immediately after the procedure, though you might need to take a couple of days before returning to work, particularly if you are displaying side–effects such as swelling, bruising or any redness. Results of the treatment last for nearly two years, after which a repeat treatment might be required to maintain the results.

You should remember that excessive movement of the injected area speeds up the absorption of the filler into the body. The gel medium gets absorbed into the body within a few months itself, while the calcium–based microspheres last for over a year. There is a small risk of Radiesse forming hard nodules in the injected area, in which case the nodules will have to be removed surgically.

There are no specific long–term measures associated with this procedure, and you can return to your regular lifestyle a few days after the treatment. Since Radiesse consists of ingredients that are naturally found in the body, there are no long-term risks involved. This also reduces the possibility of an allergic reaction.
