Potential Risks and Complications of Evolence

Evolence treatments are intended to fill fine lines and wrinkles on the skin’s surface. The treatment is in the form of an injected filler that smooths the skin. Although the product used is FDA approved, there are still potential complications and risks of treatment.

Lumps under Skin Surface

Because Evolence is injected under the skin, it is possible for the produce to clump together rather than spread out. Massaging treated areas after the procedure is essential to preventing lumping, but may not always prevent lumps. In such a situation, lines and wrinkles may not be filled and the skin might have a bump until the dissolution of the product (after several months). Sometimes, other fillers are needed to break apart lumps.

Bruising

Some skin types, typically more sensitive skins, may bruise after treatment. Bruising can occur at the injection site or the placement of the treatment. Unfortunately, there is very little that can be done to prevent bruising. Should bruising occur, applying hot and cold compresses will assist in helping it disappear as fast as possible. In some instances, bruising may be uncomfortable or painful for a patient, requiring over-the-counter pain medications and a need to treat the skin as tenderly as possible.

Blood Clotting

If Evolence is injected into or nearby blood vessels, there is a very serious risk of the patient developing serious or even life threatening blood clots. Blood clots can develop almost anywhere in a body and can cause severe discomfort. There is also the chance of a blood clot traveling to the heart, causing a heart attack. Because of this, patients with blood disorders are typically advised to not use Evolence treatments.

Infection

As with any injection or surgical procedure, there is always the potential for the site to become infected. Infection can be painful and pose a serious threat to the patient’s health. Infections are identified by redness, swelling or puss at the injection site. In some situations, extra medications, including a round of antibiotics or application of topical antibiotic creams, may be necessary to treat the infection.

Treatment Failure

In some cases, Evolence will not produce the desired results or the results may not last as long as anticipated. In this situation, patients will need to undergo additional treatments sooner than expected or try another procedure to fill lines and wrinkles on the skin’s surface.

Migration

After the injection, a physician cannot control the spreading or activity of Evolence. Because of this, it is possible that the treatment might migrate to other areas. Should this occur, it could result in a lump, bruise or swelling in the area not intended to be treated. Also, the lines and wrinkles in the area intended to be treated will remain in place and visible.

Necrosis

In some cases, treatments will cause the cells surrounding the injection site to die; this is referred to as necrosis. Necrosis is a serious condition that can cause distortion of the area in which the cells are no longer living. Prior to undergoing treatment, speak with your physician about this potential side effect and how its occurrence is handled.
